"This review is in regard to the Denison swim team program for youth at Waterloo Pool. We love the pool, it is amazing and were very excited to enroll our daughter into the Dolphin swim team. However, and parents BEWARE, they will attempt to make you sign a waiver releasing them from all harm, injury or death as a result of being on the team. Here are the exact wordings of the contract that pertain to our issue. 1. The risk of injury to my child from the activities involved in these programs is significant, including the potential for permanent disability and death, and while particular rules, equipment, and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious injury does exist; and, 2. FOR MYSELF, SPOUSE, AND CHILD, I KNOWINIGLY AND FREELY ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS, both known and unknown, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES or others, and assume full responsibility for my child’s participation; and, We realize the unfortunate litigious nature of our culture today, but felt this is a blatant attempt to utterly and completely get themselves off the hook with any liability they may incur, and is wholly unacceptable, despite the low risk of injury or death to a child. But we as parents, feel this waiver invites staff carelessness or recklessness and puts all responsibility on the parents, ignoring all other conditions. If this was your child, we'd assume you would feel the same way. Be careful and carefully watch what rights you are signing away. Our daughter is too precious to us to allow her any further opportunities with Denison."
