"Dr. Gurney is probably the most skilled Chiropractor I have visited in 30 years! However, he is a bit expensive, his staff isn't very friendly, and when I had a billing issue they weren't helpful in helping me resolve it. I don't think I will be going back."

"Aspen Chiropractic is an excellent place for treatment. I have seen quite a few chiropractors, and I think Dr. Gurney is definitely one of the better ones in terms of knowledge and understanding of the human body/alignment. I’ve had chiropractors make adjustments prior to properly aligning my body. Dr. Gurney is very good at finding the places that require adjustment. He uses a unique method, which they call muscle testing, in order to find the areas of the body that require realignment. This is a technique that I’d never experienced before, but after experiencing it, I can find it very valid. It is my understanding that this muscle testing isn’t generally covered by insurance (my insurance doesn’t cover it)… I saw that the reviewer below didn’t want to pay the $12 for the muscle testing… yeah, money doesn’t grow on trees, but the muscle testing is worth 12 bucks if you are going to a chiropractor. I had a pulled hamstring that was highly problematic, and I had no idea that I was pulling it more and more, worsening the condition (I’m a yogi), until I’d had the muscle testing. It’s solved a lot of problems. I also appreciate that Dr. Gurney is very experienced with extremities. I have relatively flat feet, and my feet would not hold in alignment because of the poor condition of the muscles. In a matter of under 10 visits, my flat feet are now holding the correct form. My pulled hamstring is almost all healed (there is some inflammation at the points that attach to the bone… to be expected). My back feels great, and I’m in the mountains backpacking/hiking/climbing almost every weekend, so I’m not taking it easy at all. Dr. Gurney is great. I was very disheartened to see my other reviewer did not have as good of an experience, but please don’t let that thwart you… he’s a very good doctor. I can see where he can come off as a little flustered (per the other reviewer), but I think this is more a reflection of having so much information to offer, and not a lack of preparation. There have been a few times I needed to remind him to check my feet, but all it took was the reminder, and then he took care of it. If you are like me, and pretty much “captain active,” he’s quite excellent with that. I’ve also seen him very effectively heal injury-related mis-alignments (through friends’ experiences, not my own). Overall, I’d highly recommend Dr. Gurney."

"Dr. Gurney was a joke. I was recommended to him, so thought I would be in capable hands, but his care was unacceptable. He was flustered while asking questions about where my pain was and then didn't take x-rays to check my spine to make informed decisions about treatment. He kept suggesting additional treatments that "insurance doesn't cover" and some of it was seriously ridiculous. He wanted to use a "muscular strength test" to determine what adjustments to make because regular adjustments "aren't as exact." I asked him to tell me what it involved before I paid for it and he said "It's hard to explain, I have to show you to really explain it, but it helps me be more exact and know where to move the bones." The test involved him pushing muscles before making adjustments - so I told him I didn't see how it was different than a standard adjustment should be, and said I wasn't interested. He continued to explain it more, I continued to say I don't think it does anything, so I'd rather he didn't. My neck was really tight when he tried to adjust it, so when it didn't crack on the first try, he proceeded to force it THREE MORE TIMES. It was very painful and never adjusted. After the sub-par "adjustments" of my neck and upper back, he tried to set me up for another appointment; so I asked if he was going to check the rest of back and joints and do a full examination. He was surprised and said, "Oh yes, let's go ahead do that now." When I left, the receptionist charged me for the muscle test I told him I didn't want, and twice for the exam and adjustment, saying they aren't the same....I told her I didn't want the muscle test and she said, next time I can make a note for him to not include it, but he did perform it this time. He is clearly incompetent and trying to squeeze every penny out of patients. I would not recommend him to anyone."
