"A Disappointing Experience with New Perspectives for Neurodivergent Young Adults Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ It has taken me some time to submit my review, wanting to make it thoughtful without emotion. Our exit was not pleasant nor without deep emotional trauma. My daughter's enrollment in the New Perspectives (Aug 2020-Nov 2021) program for neurodivergent young adults turned out to be a regrettable decision, falling far short of the promises made during the initial presentation. The program, which purported to provide a supportive living environment with tailored activities for neurodivergent individuals, failed to deliver on multiple fronts. One of the primary assurances was that residents would live in three-person apartments, with one neurotypical individual, staff, and two neurodivergent individuals. However, upon arrival, my daughter was assigned to a ground-floor apartment with no neurotypical roommate, overlooking a dog urination area that emitted a constant and unpleasant odor. This stark departure from the promised living arrangement was our first indication that things were not as advertised. During the enrollment process, we were extensively questioned about our daughter's specific needs, which included social skills development, internet safety, making friends, time and money management, physical fitness, and shopping with a focus on nutrition. Unfortunately, the program failed to provide a comprehensive schedule of supported daily activities. Instead, after approximately two months, my daughter was unexpectedly pressured into securing employment. This unexpected shift contradicted our original understanding and was not aligned with our goal of focusing on her developmental needs. Furthermore, the lack of supervision raised serious concerns. Residents were allowed to wander the apartment complex at all hours, compromising their safety and well-being. An incident involving my daughter safety coupled with the program's encouragement of involvement in LGBTQ support groups, highlighted serious significant issues. Adding to the list of grievances, the program insisted on creating a new bank account for my daughter, granting them access to her funds. This move, coupled with the absence of transparent communication, raised suspicions and eroded our trust in the program's intentions. It took over a year for us to untangle the web of issues stemming from her time in the New Perspectives program. Our conclusion is clear: the love and support of family, coupled with counseling from a licensed therapist, proved to be the more effective and trustworthy approach. Despite the challenges, investing in family relationships and seeking professional guidance is a far more reliable solution than entrusting a program that fails to deliver on its promises and compromises the well-being of its residents."
