"It's a good place but just be careful if you are court ordered and are in the php program to keep your room clean every day and don't ever miss the van to go to class"
"One of my roommates attempted to overdose on her meds while I was here and I woke up to paramedics swarming the apartment. The next roommate I had later killed herself and also during our time together physically assaulted me (punched me in the face for letting staff know she was alive and had returned to the apartment). Staff were entirely oblivious to clients making wine in their rooms (they put bread in grape juice containers that were freely available and let it sit in drawers). They do not accommodate physical disabilities or autism at the level of being unable to work. Part of their program requirements are to get a job, which in itself is ableism. I left AMA after 7 months due to their inability to accommodate my neurological and physical disabilities and instead them trying to blame everything I couldn't do on "anhedonia" or "lack of motivation" from "previous drug use" when now I have a medical card (the only "drug" by most people's standards I EVER use is cannabis) for an autoimmune disorder (porphyria cutanea tarda) and C-PTSD and get more done after I medicate than I ever did there. The program ideals are clearly based on LDS and puritanical ways of thinking, so do not go here if you are queer or non-religious unless for some reason you WANT to have a bad time. IDC what they say, the staff are indoctrinated into conservative Christian ideals whether they admit/realize it or not. Despite what the liar in the reply says, there is myriad evidence of cannabis treating trauma and neurodivergences such as autism which are easily verifiable. These places simply want your money, and I am saying that as a "client" of the psych industry for over 20 years whose parents don't even trust these scam facilities anymore and whose family life has improved since all of us stopped believing these scams."
"New Roads Behavioral helped me save my life! When I arrived at the RTC (residential treatment center) in 2020, I was a very sick, broken person. I didn’t care about anything or anyone (mostly myself). I had tried to end my life and I was living day to day holding my breath with no dreams, goals, or values. The pain I was living with was unbearable. In after entering the RTC, within a few days I wanted to check myself out. The day I was to leave. the director Nicole Manwaring came into my room and talked with me. I’ll never forget it. She’s my angel and I credit her for the reason that I’m still alive today. She talked to me non-judgmental and non-interrupted (which to me, was so very much valued and needed) for a couple of hours. She could sincerely see the pain I was in and honestly wanted to help save me. I could see it in her eyes and inward behavior. She believed in me (which I felt I’d never had someone do). If I didn’t believe in myself at least it was nice to know someone who did. In after talking to her, I decided to stay and give it an honest try. It was my last hope anyway, what did I have to lose? I did just this and graduated from the RTC 4 months later. After graduating the RTC program, I then moved Into their transitional living program. This was the most scary thing I had done because living in the real world was what beat me down so much and made me feel broken. There I moved into a beautiful apartment with two roommates. This was where I needed to be. It felt like home and since I’d been living in my car previously, I was so grateful for a roof over my head. I still had lots of work and relationships repairing to finish. While in the transitional program, New Roads helped me see the importance of getting a job (which I did), taught me how to shop on a strict budget, I learned how to take the UTA (bus, train, traxx, etc) system to get around the city, I learned how to pay my bills on time, where to volunteer, and how to finally have healthy family/friends relationships. They also helped me set some goals, helped me see/set what my values are, and also helped me to see that having future dreams/plans was beneficial for a continued sustainable positive life worth living. During the program they do require you to work, volunteer, or go to school once phase appropriate. This was beneficial for me. I was even able to save money for a place to live once out of the program. The support throughout the program was exceptional! I never felt alone anymore. I felt like my family really did love me and wanted me to be around them. The support I felt I had and the many thanks I can give to my family/friends, co-peers, therapists (especially James), medical assistant (Hannah), psychiatrists, life coaches (to name a few; Nate, CC, Spring, Joshua, & Amber), the transitional program directors (Inés & Joshua), case manager (DJ), to anybody else who works behind the scenes that helped me to be the healthy person I am today. I absolutely need to include the owners, Eric and Rachel Schmitt, they both are exceptional people. If you aren’t getting what your needs may be, contact them and they will help you get the most out of the program that you can. They really do care & want to help you. I ended up being in the whole program for a total of 14 months from start to finish. This was the best 14 months of my life! Combined with my hard work, EMDR sessions, process groups, individual therapy, support of the New Roads community, going to planned activities, learning how important it is to take my medicine like I’m supposed to, learning about mental health education, and many more things that I’m forgetting- I’m now a functional goal and value oriented adult working in the mental health field. I am so grateful I found this program! It and my hard work eventually paid off. It’s not to say I struggled a bit in the program, but my mistakes and errors are those that helped me to grow and learn. I now after 16 months away, work for New Roads. It’s the best program, in my opinion! Just give it a chance, what do you have to lose…"
