"Negative 3 stars.....I've been through the mental health system since 2010 and this is the single worst experience I've had the misfortune of enduring. Went in for suicididology, ( volunteerly) and was changed to involuntary without my knowledge. The doctor came to my room and asked if I wanted to talk about my "sexual issues" when I declined he never talked to me again for 11 days. The nurses were the rudest I've ever met. ( Most of them) They took me to mental health Court.....talked to me for 15 seconds and sent me home. What a joke....."
"A Beacon of Hope and Professionalism Our experience at Highland Ridge Behavior Hospital, particularly during my daughter's treatment, was notably positive, a sentiment I am compelled to share. In an environment that inherently comes with its challenges, the shining light was undoubtedly Dr. Brown. Her profound knowledge, unwavering professionalism, and genuine kindness not only provided reassurance but also played a pivotal role in the healing journey. It's rare to encounter a healthcare professional who combines expertise with such heartfelt compassion. The therapeutic support was another aspect that stood out remarkably. The therapist's willingness to go above and beyond by facilitating communication through printed emails was a testament to their dedication. This small yet significant gesture bridged the gap between clinical treatment and personal touch, making a world of difference for my daughter and our family. While it's acknowledged that the setting of a behavioral hospital can be daunting and the food might not always meet expectations, these were overshadowed by the exemplary service and care provided. The reception and phone personnel deserve a special mention for their efficiency and warmth, creating a welcoming first impression and ongoing support. In conclusion, our gratitude towards Highland Ridge Behavior Hospital is immense. The exceptional care provided by Dr. Brown, the thoughtful therapist, and the supportive staff has been instrumental in my daughter's recovery. This facility has not only offered effective help and guidance but has also instilled hope during a critical time in our lives. Thank you, Highland Ridge, for being a pillar of support and professionalism."
"Do NOT send yourself or your loved ones here. I am now nearly 3 years sober (no thanks to highland) but after seeing several news stories and reviews of this place I’ll share my experience. I went to highland for “detox” where upon being checked in the first thing the male that was doing my intake said to me was “Ever been to prison?” I’m assuming this is because I am heavily tattooed but I found quite odd. I said “No, why?” and was met with silence. He then proceeded to have me strip down, bend over and spread. That process is the whole reason I didn’t go to a MUCH nicer facility such as UNI where they do the same procedure. It’s degrading and traumatic to me. He then had me do a urine test which was was knocked over and spilled during the transfer. He told me that’s ok we will get another one in a little bit. I was there for nearly a week and never got another drug test all the while they were feeding me all sorts of meds without a clue of what was in my system. What made things worse is the first day I was there, there was another female patient that wore a CTR ring And read a Book of Mormon all day, told me she was able to sneak drugs in internally and use them for her first 2 days there. Guess since she wasn’t tattooed, no need to worry about her during intake. I asked every patient in my unit if they had to “bend and spread” not a single other person did. I befriended a nurse there and explained my intake process to her and she told me it had been nearly a year since they stopped doing that degrading process of bending and spreading. From there I reported everything and was immediately treated worse by staff and it took nearly 36 hours before I ever met with a doctor afterwards. I admit I eventually started becoming unruly until they would let me leave so I could move on to rehab. I’ve seen several news stories and reports since I stayed there and am baffled this place is still in business. It’s a dump with incompetent staff. Take your loved ones elsewhere. If I could rate negative 1000 stars I would."
"Dude, this place allows bullying to happen. They make fun of the patients. I was in the adolescent unit as a 14 year old. They would brag about how the adult unit is hell to be in. The place is a breeding ground for bullying. Not to mention, I've had my own trauma invalidated by the ADULT STAFF. I can go on and on about this place. I've been there twice. I was there the 1st time around for 9 days and the 2nd time 2 weeks. I knew a girl who was there for a month and she indured bullying from other patients because she was plus-sized. A kid was having a panic attack and the staff told them to get over it. Some of the staff are chill though."
"I was Hospitalized here in October of 2014. It seems that this place has just gone downhill since then. At the time I was there the staff was decent. However during our dinner when visitors were allowed to come we could take up to an hour visiting but couldn't be taken back to our rooms until everyone was done. I had visitors everyday and the staff that took us down for dinner told me I didn't need to take the full hour of dinner up visiting with my family. They said it offended other adolescents who didn't have visitors. I felt rushed and that I couldn't have the time I got with my family. I also was told not too spend too much time on the phone when we were allowed phone calls twice a day. No more than 5-10 minutes. There was a female therapist I don't remember her name she was short with glasses and long gray hair. She was great! She was very attentive and kind. The other therapists I felt didn't listen or take me seriously with what I was saying. It was a decent experience for me. My parents were told they had to pay at least half of the cost of my stay in order for me to be rereleased. I was only there 9 days, but a payment plan would've been a better option for my family who struggled with money."
