"Extremely racist receptionist!!! 2 former patients walked in and she refused to help them because they didn’t speak well enough English. She also stated no one there speaks Spanish anymore so they can’t help in any way. Another person in the lobby offered to translate since they just wanted to make an appointment. The receptionist said she wasn’t allowed to help them. This is supposed to be a place that helps! Instead they humiliate them and don’t even try to be understanding. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR. THEY WILL NOT HELP AT ALL"
"Be warned, if you have any fertility issues or have had even minor surgical procedures done it can disqualify you for sliding scale services. This practice advertises itself as a "safe space" with LGBTQ training but from personal experience I can tell you that the majority of the staff will have no idea how to assist you, be prepared for a debate with the office staff in the waiting room."
"The staff are really nice and respectful! Very well spoken about certain procedures!"
"I have had absolutely amazing experiences every time I visit this place. I recommend it to all my friends who are considering getting tested. I’m met with absolutely no judgement each time, and every single staff member I have met has been incredibly kind to me. Because I’m a full-time student without a job, they let me participate in a program that gives individuals under the age of 24 free STD testing. I have never paid a dime. I get my results within a few days each time. They will answer all your questions gladly and respectfully, without being condescending or judgmental. All of the staff is very personable and welcoming. They are extremely inclusive to the LGBTQ+ community as well. And as a cherry on top, every time you visit they give you a “goody bag” at the end. Anyone who has given this place a negative rating definitely has not been in recently."
"Don't waste your time going here. The nurses are very judgmental and instead of providing STD counseling, they lecture you about "all your bad decisions." There's a difference between talking to someone about potentially risky behaviors and being condescending. On a different occasion, a nurse also told me that if I wanted a free HIV, syphilis, or hepatitis test, that I should call up the blood bank and say I want to make a donation because "they can tell you right away if your blood has anything in it." NOT TRUE. First of all, blood banks specifically tell you to NOT donate blood as a way of getting tested. Sure, they test it all so it doesn't harm anyone who receives it, but if the blood tests positive for something, they don't have the training to talk to someone who has just found out they have an STD. They will call and say they can't take your blood because of whatever they found, but that's it. Second, you don't find out right away if you're infected with HIV, syphilis, or hepatitis. The machine that they put your blood in at the beginning of an appointment is to test iron levels to make sure you're not anemic. That's it. They don't test the blood for any diseases until later, so you likely wouldn't find out for a few days. If you want supportive testing, counseling, and/or treatment, you're better off going to Planned Parenthood or the Nebraska Aids Project (NAP) downtown. They are understanding and don't treat you like you're stupid, and at the NAP they do HIV testing that only takes 15 minutes. At Planned Parenthood you can do a urine test for chlamydia and gonorrhea and blood tests just like at Family Health Services, but without the judgment. These tests might have an extra cost, but if you go to the NAP in Omaha they will do it for free on some days, just check their website. I've also heard that the Lancaster Health Department does testing too, but I have never been to them so I don't know how they are. Overall, my experiences at Family Health Services have been negative and I find the staff extremely unprofessional. I'm actually considering going somewhere else for another urine test; at Family Health Services I was told that I tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea, but after everything I've been through with them, I don't really trust them."
