Reviews
"In their own words, “The Board also provides a process in which to file a complaint relative to a perceived lack of adequate medical services. The Board contracts with a New Mexico-licensed veterinarian to conduct investigations of the complaints. A Complaint Review Committee comprised of Board members reviews the investigator's reports & presents the complaints to the Board for resolution. If warranted & the complaint is egregious disciplinary action is initiated by the Board.” Now here's the fine print based on my experience with that process. The investigator called, said she'd be presenting my complaints to the Board at their next meeting & asked if I had anything to add. The CRC knows the identities of the parties involved but doesn't participate in the vote. The CRC decided there were no violations of the Veterinary Practice Act & my complaints were presented to the Board in that light. Irrefutable evidence from my horses' record was left out of the presentation. The Board couldn't hear it because the facts of that evidence didn't align with the CRC's decision. Board meetings are open to the public. If the public had heard that evidence, they'd have been just as outraged as I was that such incompetent and dishonest care and treatment, which caused the suffering & death of a horse, had been deemed appropriate by the state. So be aware, if there's corruption and/or the respondents lie, the justice you seek for your loved one is doomed. The director sent me a letter stating that after discussion & careful consideration the Board voted to dismiss my complaints. I filed an IPRA, got an audio recording of that meeting & all I heard were crickets chirping then a motion to dismiss. To give you an idea of what was dismissed, the 1st vet professed to have experience suturing severe lacerations on horses yet ran out of anesthesia & her preferred needles; had to change her position & hurry to finish & in an area where she noted potential healing problems; didn't give me any care instructions for his sutures or drain; left his oozing sutures, wounds & drain exposed & unprotected from flying insects; came out 5 days later & saw problems in that area indicative of infection yet didn't physically treat it; 5 days later the 2nd vet saw a photo of that area showing glaring signs of infection & said nothing to me about it; 7 days later the 1st vet told me to start applying antibiotic ointment to that area yet didn't address my horses' lethargy; 3 days later the 2nd vet put him on treatment for the infection but didn't address his increased lethargy; then blew off his worsened lethargy, being down & not eating as not being an emergency; then misdiagnosed multiple signs of neurologic disease described to her & two right in front of her face & prescribed the wrong course of treatment; then told me false blood test results & led me to believe my horse had only a wound infection, he might be slightly dehydrated & suffering from partial choke when in truth he was suffering & he was dying from West Nile Virus. My horse developed 2 additional medical conditions directly related to the care & treatment he received from these vets & he died. I found many cases of unvaccinated horses that recovered from WNV & found no reason why my horse wouldn't have too if he'd received treatment in a timely manner. The director told me my complaints were dismissed because there were insufficient grounds to conclude the veterinarians had violated professional standards to such a degree as to warrant discipline. At this point you may be wondering just what does. In the audio recording I heard a veterinarian was punished with 6 hrs of continuing education on record keeping for failing to put in a dogs' record how the teeth were pulled. Update: During a meeting on 1/31/24 the Board revealed my complaints were dismissed because I hadn't vaccinated my horse. The vax manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim offers up to $5000 for diagnostics & treatment of fully vaccinated horses that contract the disease."
