Whistler Gulch Campground

"Nice location, but received an email that we moved their firepit and table against the rules. Posted pic of where they were, never moved. Stated that could result in heavy fines. Don't email me just a text, or stop by our camp to address. We had our own propane fire pit."

"Before my review, I will explain our experience . My wife and I are full time RV'S for almost 5 years. We visit about 25 RV parks each year. We were greeted by a guy in the office and everything went OK. Our site was so unlevel we couldn't get our rig level. I went back to the office and asked if we could move to a different site and gave the site #. I was accommodated. Later I went back to the office and asked if our friends could have the site next to us. The new lady at the desk immediately says no. She asked where I was and I explained. She said that site is not 50 amp. I said I was plugged in and she said I know my park and it is not 50 amp. I tried to explain but she said I had to move or leave. So we moved for the 3rd time to a site I couldn't get level in. There was more but I will move on. We didn't have a fire rig so I asked for one and the maintenance guy said they are dirty and heavy, so he didn't want to move one. I said I will get the one next door and he said if I do, I will be fined. The next day when the person in the next site pulled in and opened his slide, we were cramped. Our RV'S were 38 inches apart. Now we could even use the picnic table. It was very rickety anyway. Did I mention the neighbors sewer drain was 3 feet outside our front door. The sites in this park are very narrow and very unlevel. I had to laugh at their brochure, it said, "adhear to the rules to assure that these facilities remain in top condition." There was NOTHING in this park in top condition. The pool was OK but only a little over 3 feet deep. The dryers in the laundry facility took two cycles to dry our clothes. My recommendation would be to find another park. The staff was extremely unfriendly to us. When I showed the lady pictures of the 50 amp service at the sites I mentioned, it must have really pissed her off and that must have been why we were treated so poorly. This is one of 3 parks out of about 150 we have been in that I would never go back to and you should either."

"We had a reservation at this Campground for July 31/23. check in was approximately 1 PM, reading previous reviews I was afraid to ask for a early check in as we were there at 9:30 AM, I figured all they could say was, NO! WE arrived and went in, the park wasn't too busy and they checked the site that was reserved for us, it was empty, so they said "it was no problem", what a huge help this was, camp was set up and we were on our way to Mount Rushmore. the campground was clean and they were very pleasant to deal with, the laundry facilities were exceptional, very clean and up to date. I would 100% stay here again if I am passing through."

"There is potential in this campground, but until someone works to deliver on that I don't recommend this campground. We visited just before Memorial Day, so perhaps they were not yet ready for the season. Did not see much sign of preparations underway either! The location is great, convenient for Deadwood, and the views from our spot up on the hill were great. The town's trolley service goes to the campground but seemed to be unreliable and not as per the schedule. General maintenance seems a long way behind schedule. Our camping spot was not very level, and the gravel needed replenishing and weeding. It was a little on the small side and the drop-off at the end was severe. The pool was not filled but as we were leaving it looked as if someone was doing some work on it. - one of the few staff members we saw, and not much other sign of work going on. The washrooms were in poor shape, not cleaned, closed stalls (for renovation? right before the season?), broken lights - in the men's restroom the only light above the sinks that worked was over a sink that had no faucets. Go figure! The electrical hookup was unreliable and kept tripping, and the next spot along looked as if their hookup had been melted by a previous occupant. Overall, this could be great but isn't. The place needs an enthusiastic and energetic owner / workforce but appears to have neither."
