The mezzanine level houses the largest collection of reptiles in the world, including crocodiles, amphibians, and big bugs.
Visitors can also interact with prairie dogs in the underground bubble at Prairie Dog Town, get up close to giant tortoises like Tank, Samson, and Orville, and explore Avian Avenue and the Gators & Crocs Arena. The institution is home to a variety of reptile species and subspecies, making it a premier destination for animal lovers.
Unfortunately, due to recent incidents, personal pets are not allowed on the grounds of Reptile Gardens, with the exception of ADA approved service dogs. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful botanical gardens, thrilling shows, and educational exhibits that make Reptile Gardens a must-visit attraction for the whole family.

"There are so many snakes under one roof... oouff! What a fabulous display! (If you like snakes that is, as for me, I sure am glad they were all behind glass!) And the crocodiles are VERY cool. We went on a cooler day, so we weren't able to do the tortoise experience, but we still got to see them. I just wish we could have touched them and recorded a video of our children's excitement doing so. We had a great time, regardless of that. The gift shop has really neat stuff also. Cool place to stop at."
"This place has changed since I have been there as a kid! It’s so much more bright and well cared for!! Ventilation system is excellent and it was great on such a hot day. The animal keepers were so nice and knowledgeable about their animals. You can tell they really care for their animal friends! I absolutely loved this trip with the kids. Excellent place to stop in the Black Hills for sure!"
