"I appreciated that the appointment moving up a week, both for an early diagnosis and because I had a family reunion in California. But communication to and from the staff was problematic. For example, I was notified that a prescription had been sent before I'd had my discussion with the doctor about alternative treatments. And although the doctor ordered a PET scan from PENRAD, the order was sent to the wrong office there and would have languished had I not followed up directly. Then, today, the Doctor's assistant called to say that the order was only now (Friday, the 23rd) being sent and apologizing for the delay, leaving me to inform her that the scan had, in fact, already been scheduled for next Tuesday by Wanda at Penrad after I'd tracked Wanda down and she'd tracked down the order. I should mention as well that while Dr. Derksen discussed the surgery option and said it would be done by his partner, he didn't tell me who the partner was or how experienced he was in that sort of surgery. Dr. Derksen mentioned that he would prescribe a medication which would keep my tumor at bay during the month I was in California, but not what that medication would be or the side effects it would have. When I followed up with my gerontologist, Dr. Kulp, he told me that Dr.Derksen was 'leaning toward radiation', although he hadn't said why. I had the impression, in short, that I was entering the practice at a time of staff changes and perhaps some distraction all around. "Arrived early for check up...3:40pm...for 4:00 appointment. Was taken to exam room at approximately 4:20. Left at 4:55pm without seeing the doctor. Office was closing down. Not the first time this office has 'kicked me to the curb'. Very disappointed."
