"The mining experience is fun. Have them turn the lights off and it way more fun."

"I came in on a Saturday afternoon with my young son. I am from here. Not a tourist, not a transplant. I’ve seen the customer service plummet in my once favorite town more and more in recent years so I write this review in hopes that the business owners and chamber will start to step up and redirect the trajectory of this town. We’ve never been in this toy store before. We were happy there was a new one to replace our favorite that closed years ago. I walked in with my three year old and began to browse the middle section where the registers are. I took my sons picture in the big feet and as we started to look at the toys, I overheard three employees who were hanging out around the register; none of which greeted us. I heard one of the young men employees loudly telling the others a story about how he was “bisexual” and went on to describe his night out. At that time, I was passing the register area near the stairs and made eye contact with one of the employees in an effort to say “you have customers” thinking he would stop or at least talk more quietly. He came briefly over and asked if I needed anything. I said no, we were just looking, and he went right back to his story with the others, saying something like “he knew I was bisexual”….”I was under the porch begging them to…..” (blah blah blah…all about his weird date with some other weird person, doing weird stuff. This should be none of my child’s business!) My son and I walked down the stairs of the upper area after hearing way too much of this. I walked by again and gave the employees a raised eyebrow in another attempt to say “do you realize this is a children’s toy store and some parents don’t want our kids to have to hear about what you are talking about?” My son wanted to get a wooden train car, that honestly, I probably would’ve bought, but I was so disgusted by them talking that way in the vicinity of children (aka a toy store) while the customer service was nonexistent and terrible. I didn’t even know there was an option to buy tickets for anything or that there was a mining thing available. That would’ve been nice to let my son check out, but honestly, we won’t be back in after the short but gross experience we had. I just hope the owners do some more extensive training on what is acceptable behavior around kids and families. Also no one cared we were there. Very disappointed. Someone should tell those employees that’s not a bar anymore. Perhaps they’re just confused about where they’re working. PS: I saw someone else comment about being treated poorly here and thought it may be because they are Native American. We are white and got incredibly poor service and had a bad experience too so it may be an employee issue as well. Who knows- seems like no one’s knows how to treat customers anymore. Maybe downtown needs to partner up with the Shriners or Senior center and let the Gen Z employees in Durango shadow the Post War folks for a week or two…train them on how to respect people again."

"We brought our son and four of his friends here as part of his 7th birthday party. The kids LOVED it and the store manager was so patient with them. It was a great experience for all!"

"The mining cave experience is wonderful! My 5yo daughter had a blast and found so many gems—the highlight of her day! Lots of great gifts and toys, as well. We will definitely be back next year!"
