"Absolutely amazing view. Came on a weekday in March just before a snowstorm hit that evening. Me and my fiancé were alone for 20-30 minutes before someone else drove up. Entry was included with the Zoo ticket so it was a no brainer to drive up here. The sounds of the crowds and traffic were nearly absent. Just the wind and the birds. Chapel is a nice touch to this location. You feel a bit closer to God."
"Will Rogers Shrine of the Son is part of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo so it’s free if you buy a Zoo ticket at 30.00 or less. The tower is not handicap accessible having been built around 88 years ago. Standing at 5 stories tall - 100 feet. It commands an astounding view all the way to Pikes Peak. The chimes can be heard for up to 20 Miles. “ In 1934, Spencer Penrose, who had already built the Pikes Peak Highway, The Broadmoor, and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, began constructing the singing shrine as a resting place for him and his wife, Julie. This was after Spencer was diagnosed with throat cancer. At nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun serves as the final resting place for Spencer and Julie Penrose, as well as a destination to experience extraordinary” If you haven’t visited it it’s a serious piece of history."
"The drive is not for the faint of heart. Once you get to the top, the view is in another league. Just imagine how hard it was to get all the materials up the mountains to build this must have been out of this world. If you’re ok with heights then this is you’re stuff. Don’t miss out on this opportunity."
"This is a neat stop if you're already going to the zoo. The views are incredible and the structure itself is beautiful! Admission is free with a zoo ticket. You need to see this at least once!"
"Very interesting but beautiful shrine. Definitely worth visiting if you’re going to Cheyenne zoo. Plus you get to drive straight through the zoo on the way up to the shrine and get great views of the animals. By the parking, there is a small museum that gives the history of the shrine and the people it’s dedicated to. The shrine is painted on the inside and I believe is three stories tall with great overlooks at each floor. If you walk down the left staircase next to the entrance, there is a small room with a painting of Mary and Jesus. Overall great place"
