"University Capitol Centre has been a downtown hub for many years. The brick exterior and the inside layout has a vintage 1980s mall feel to it. Many years ago, it was a mall with a movie theater, video game arcade, a two-floor JC Penny, and more. Fast forward 40 years and now much of the building is used by the University of Iowa. However, there are still some shops and restaurants to provide an interesting mixed-use space. There are well-known big brand businesses as well as locally owned ones. The four star review is only because the building seems out of place for the downtown area which is mostly two-story historic buildings that have been carefully restored and preserved, as well as modern award winning architecture. So, a building that looks like a converted 1980s shopping mall seems odd. It probably could benefit from a style improvement."
