She made sure I was totally numb (huge win because it’s been a challenge elsewhere). "Short version: Dr. Shaw at Restoration Dental is a brilliant dentist, highly skilled and great with children. Long version: Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of dentists.  Dentists have always conjured up visions of pain and confusion, because I had a really hard time being numbed for dental work. That all changed when a friend told me about Restoration Dental (by the referral of my knowledgeable and beautiful wife). Dr. Ian Shaw, of Restoration Dental, is without qualification the most wonderful and skillful dentist with whom I have ever interacted.  He's brilliant and amiable, talented and engaging. After finding out that I needed several cavities filled and a crown to boot, I was very disheartened.  Dentists have never been effective at numbing my lower jaw, and I've had several cavities drilled out with only partial numbing; I didn't want to try another one.  Dr. Shaw took the time to understand my background and worked with me to build trust.  He successfully numbed me for the procedures, and I walked away satisfied like I never have been after a dentist visit. I'm an engineer by trade.  I'm the kind of person who needs to understand something to drive action.  This is another area where Restoration Dental really shines.  The culture of the business puts a high emphasis on patient education, because they believe that education drives positive behavior.  It certainly worked in my case!  After decades of not flossing, I have flossed daily for five months now.
