Reviews
"Walked the beach trail from Shipwreck Beach. Distance about 5 miles round trip. Beach and bluff views are phenomenal. The cave, docent, and tortoises are well worth the hike. Highly recommended!"
"We got to the parking area around 9:45 am and glad we did. The walk can get extensive if you have to park so far away. The later it gets the more crowded. Trail is well marked with signs. No wheelchair access! The entrance to the cave is very low. You have to crawl on hands and knees. Only for about 10 steps though and then it opens up. There is a donation box and someone there that answers questions and tells the history of the cave. When we came back to our car, cars were parking way out. Parking is just off the side of the dirt road. Road has lots of potholes and is rough. Bonus: crossing the bridge by the cave takes you to a tortoise sanctuary. We about 4 huge tortoises each in their own pen. We weren't expecting this adventure but it was fun! This trail is right by Mahaulepu Beach. Great beach! Nice sand"
"Walked the entire trail barefoot which was fun. Took the jeep 4x4 to park as close as possible (right above the last parking area over the cliff). Cave trail path was conveniently marked with signs with info. Then ducked into the cave entrance to explore the cave and check out the frogs in the ponds. Lastly, walked to the tortoise reserve to see about 6 tortoises which were each in their respective isolated areas. Then walked down to the beach and back up the horse trail where we saw the double rainbow after a heavy rain."
"We were grateful to be able to visit this special place. There are many dedicated volunteers who work hard to maintain and restore this place. They rely on visitor donations. So many places on Kauai also require limited reservations that are often booked days in advance. It's nice to have a special place like this open to everyone without needing a reservation."
"Cavey, didn’t realize we were driving all the way there. Once things get bumpy, you keep going and drive to a horse stable area. Easy walk for kids and families down the cave area. Home to some very endangered creatures that only call the cave home. Little local run attraction spot. Nearby tortoises to see too. Also an easy walk to the beach, saw an adorable seal!"
