"Found a great 75hp outboard at Excel Marine. Swapped it out with our current 45hp. Jacob was very knowledgeable about a couple current issues we had on our boat and had suggestions on how to do it. Started up the newer motor when we got there so we could see and confirm it ran good. Once we returned and picked up the boat he ran it again to show us that everything worked as it should with our controls. For the amount of work that goes into doing a motor swap he did a fantastic job making sure everything was to his high quality standards before it left his one man shop in his garage. I will highly recommend Jacob and Excel Marine to do work on any project. If we need something done he will be the first one to call."

"Purchased a used 125hp Mercury outboard from Jacob on Facebook Marketplace. Paid some extra for crating and shipping, but that saved me from having to make a 2 day trip to pick up the motor. Jacob was patient and understanding while I arranged for the wire transfer, and the motor was then shipped promptly. The crating was *outstanding* as attested to by my local marine mechanic. They also said that the motor was in excellent condition. I highly recommend Excel Marine!"

"I purchased a 2001 50 HP Mercury outboard from Jacob. We scheduled a "SETUP" time earlier in the day for $350 to install the motor on my boat and remove the old one at 2pm. I arrived a bit after 2. Jacob works out of a two stall garage in a house in a small town. When I wanted to look the inside motor he Just turned on water started and ran for 10-20 seconds on a stand. Then Jacob asked for my money i brought now that I seen it run. Gave her the money and was taken inside and given a receipt back. I wanted to see it go into gear so he turned water on and ran for 20 seconds. I then began to ask questions on what he did to the motor. When were spark plugs pump and other wear items changed. He began to remove my old motor to install the new one. Dismantled it and put it back of my truck with no covers and a bag of parts. Asking motor questions and such and he gets irritated after 3-4 questions. I watched and asked a few motor related questions and then he said why don't you leave and go to the lake and drive around so I can get this installed. He did this in a rude and demanding manner. I left to get a pop returned an hour or so later. Upon arriving he was struggling to get the steering linkage on properly after multiple attempts he completed it after referencing documentation. He indicated it was done and he would help me hook up so I could take off. I said I need to see if it runs. So we started and the engine raced to 4000 RPM at idle. He made adjustments to the throttle cables got it lower and said OK there ya go. I said I waned to see if it went into gear. so we tested it and I took cover off and found that one of the yellow stater wires was melted he said no that is a voltage regulator they always fail. I said need to take care of that so I don't get stranded on the lake he began to yell profanity at me and told me to get "F" off his property or he was calling the cops and said was tired of me nitpicking the motor. I told him I was tired of his terrible customer service and bad attitude. I just spent about $3300 on a turn key motor. Jacob then went into the garage after posturing at me and shut the garage door and went in and told his mom and she then came out to yell at me with a 2 month old baby in her arms to tell me how bad of a customer I was because of what her son had said. I kept asking her to stop yelling but she couldn't and went inside. After Jacob and his mom went in the lady who helped Jacob install the motor helped me and apologized for what had happened. I left. When I get home I looked at the motor to find the Stater wires melted and did a compression check and is barely 105 psi on each cylinder with a $100 compression tester. He said compression was 120-125 see FB message below. I have my doubts this motor will last. Avoid this place until Jacob can learn customer service and act like a business owner. I regret ever meeting this unprofessional person. I hope the motor will last a few years. I am a 100% disabled Gulf war Veteran and this is how he treated me. "Very pleased with the service that Jacob provided. Bought a motor from him that was very reasonably priced. I also needed modifications to the motor length and he was able to accommodate that. At the same time he gave me a fair trade on my older motor. Him and his family are very kind and I would recommend them to anyone."

"Stay away from Excell Marine in Superior Iowa, they are crooks, don't leave a deposit on anything as they will not honor it. Horribly ran business by a couple of nut jobs!!! Find someone that is reputable!!! After leaving a $500 NON refundable deposit on a used outboard, and given 3 weeks to final pay and pick up, 1.5 weeks in and they refunded my deposit and said we sold to someone else. This all after I sold my motor and now had nothing mid summer in the Midwest!! I kept all emails and can prove everything I have said in this review. The husband and wife that run this are horrible people and no one should do business with them!!!"
