They make sure you have all the knowledge of any procedure they plan on doing. I am incredibly grateful to the team I had for their support during a tough pregnancy."

"Went in for an ultrasound with my husband, 9, and 2 yr old only to be told they would only let two people in room as we were checking in. The ultrasound literally took 10 minutes and my family couldn't even be there for it. My 2 year old cried and cried. I was so sad, it really took away from what should have been a great expereince. I've been going to Avera for years and have never been told this."

"The first time I had an appointment scheduled for my genetic screening which was scheduled weeks earlier, they called me the day prior asking me if I could be there in 30 minutes because they couldn’t do it when they originally scheduled it & now I had my 20 week anatomy scan scheduled for tomorrow, again they called me the day before telling me they are going to have to push it out another 2 weeks. First of all, with my husband working out of town he managed to get the week off so he could be with me while finding out the gender of our baby & they call me the day before, not a week before or a couple days before but, THE DAY BEFORE saying they cannot do it because of staffing... so I would highly recommend NOT going with Avera Fetal Medicine because clearly they aren’t able to do scheduling correctly as I’ve went to them twice & “something” always comes up. It’s frustrating & I don’t understand how they can’t tackle such a simple task such as SCHEDULING."

"I went to my appointment to start insulin. The nurse that called me in asked me why I didn't take my sugars for 2 days. I didn't tell her that I'm depressed and that the pills they give me to help me sleep turn me into a zombie all day. I just said that I keep forgetting. She got up and closed the door and she literally started crying. And she said "my daughter had a stillborn at 38 weeks so it hurts me to see someone that doesn't want to take care of themselves or their baby." I got up and walked out. This is the second time this week I've been shamed as a mother at Avera. I'm 37 weeks pregnant tomorrow and dont feel safe from judgement here. I have felt attacked, I've been guilt tripped, I've had blame and focus shifted onto me more than once even just this week by doctors and nurses that I'm supposed to be able to trust. I am currently switching to sanford maternal medicine. I'm sure they will be more professional and respectful."
