About the Business

Lost Valley Trailhead is a park located on Lost Valley Road in Kingston, Arkansas, United States. Established in 1972, it serves as a starting point for exploring the beautiful Buffalo National River. This river flows freely for 135 miles and is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. Visitors can journey from running rapids to quiet pools while surrounded by massive bluffs in the Ozark Mountains as they cruise down to the White River.
At Lost Valley Trailhead, you can learn about the various stretches of river that you can paddle and how to prepare for your river trip. It is important to check river levels before embarking on your float trip, as river conditions are monitored by six gauges along the Buffalo River. Pavilions, group sites, and some individual campsites are available for reservation from March 15 to November 14.
Visitors can also explore the Boxley Grist Mill to step back in time and learn about the history of the area. It is important to recreate responsibly and follow guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries while enjoying the Buffalo National River.
In 2024, there will be a Total Solar Eclipse visible from Buffalo National River, and information and details about this event are available at Lost Valley Trailhead. While there is no entry fee to access Buffalo National River, camping fees apply. Visitors can learn more about the fees and plan their next trip to this beautiful natural area.

"The start of this trail is very simple and gets more "climb-y" as you go...it's a good way to gauge difficulty. A few different cavern/caves to explore along the way, a nice variety of scenic views overall. You'll like it!"
"This trail does not allow pets of any kind. This is a wonderful gem hidden near Ponca, Arkansas. If you've been here in the distant past, you may expect to camp here. Please note that there are no overnight camping spots here these days, it is strictly a day use area. It does have clean restroom facilities with running water to wash your hands. The first .9 mile of the trail is crushed gravel and wide, so if you're not hiking all the way to the falls, or are traveling with someone who needs accessibility, it's very easy (with the exception of the first part crossing the creek). During wet months, be prepared to get your feet wet if you're hiking to the falls. There is also a wheelchair accessible picnic table with an easy path and a wheelchair accessible restroom. Both are a short distance from the parking lot."
"The trail in Arkansas is one of my favorites, especially during the summer and fall seasons. It takes about an hour to hike one way. The highlight of the trail is the beautiful Edan Waterfalls and a small cave/tunnel that are definitely worth experiencing. Although it may be a little challenging to get there, it is definitely doable. Been there twice."
"Absolutely loved this hike, it was super easy yet full of adventure. Lots of running water and awesome sights little canyon style water falls. And then the awesome cave crawl with 20 foot water fall inside the dark cave. You crawl or more like walk on all fours about 30 feet or so to gain entrance to a large open cave where water is pouring in from the ceiling. And if you're eye sight is good half way up the crawl to the right is a hole where you can actually stand up and walk through a narrow corridor instead of crawling. Seriously was awesome here."
"One of my favorite places to hike in the Buffalo National River area. Anyone from any age can hike 80%-90% of this trail with no problem. The trail is very well kept and maintained! The water falls are amazing (during the wet season). The cave at the top is totally worth the hike to get to the waterfall inside the mountain!"
