"Liars and thieves. They were not the actual carrier because they sent another company to move us and they raised the price $3,000 after they had the truck loaded. They showed up 2 days late and it was nearly impossible to reach anyone to find out what was going on. I have moved several times for work and even moved overseas and by far this was the worst experience I ever had. It was stressful and my anxiety was really off the charts. I had to drive 2,000 miles in 2 days because they were late picking up our furniture. They also charged for everything they considered extra like packing tape even though we had everything boxed and ready to go. The tape was used to hold the furniture blankets in place and they did take the glass tops off our end tables. When they arrived they didn’t reassemble anything but the beds even though they disassembled several items. I spent hours reassembling tables, desks and other items."
"Thumbs down negative stars all of that! Do not use this company if you VALUE any of your items/ furniture now where to begin. When they moved our stuff out of the first apartment the mover rolled our big leather chair out the door and hit the wall in doing so instead of lifting it. It’s a nightmare to track the whereabouts! Our stuff sat in the original state we moved from for three weeks after they picked it up from the apartment before the loaded it on a truck to drive to the destination. Calling to ask about a status is a nightmare you could reach the president fast and easier. A lot of I don’t knows and they just give you numbers to try and call, but no one answers. When we finally reach a number for the driver he didn’t even know his own name or the location as to where he was heading to take the stuff he asked us what state and for the address. When they arrived they arrived at 6:30 in the morning on Sunday no warning what so ever. The driver parked down the street we told him of an easier access location and he said he didn’t feel like moving the truck. The movers act like the can’t read all boxes that were labeled “fragile” or “this side up” were sitting every kind of way and the boxes were damaged. The driver watched us open one of said boxes as we checked to see if they were broken and said “oh you’re lucky”. Then proceeded to ask about the rent around the area and asked if we “had any more money for him. Due to his laziness with the truck and not wanting to move it closer threaten to charge a walking fee. So again if you are looking for a mover YOU FOUND THE WRONG ONE!"
"I would NOT recommend this company at all. I had to push 1 star, just to be able to leave a review. I scheduled my move over a month out last week. I received a call late 2 nights ago, my brother is in the hospital and probably has 2 -3 weeks to live. I needed to cancel my move because I need to handle family affairs for a undertermined amount of time. I tried to call 5x yesterday, which was a holiday. I could not reach anyone, and the call would drop when I tried to leave a message, so I emailed them to explain my situation, and try to get my $480.00 deposit back. I saw there was no refund, even with this family emergency on the contract, if canceled after 3 days. I tried to plea with them because 480.00 is a lot of money to me. I even asked for half. They wouldn't even do that! I asked to talk with a supervisor, and they wouldn't let me talk to them. I understand this is their business, but no heart, and all they care about is their money. 0 stars."
"Oh where to begin. I am moving a hot tub to an adjacent state. I was advised to schedule an early pickup to avoid the busy season to make pick up more reliable. I did so and the madness began. I paid extra fees for a heavy and bulky load and even paid extra for the storage from the early pick up (all of which seemed fair). The pick up team arrived in time - though it was a sub contractor. Gathright claims not to use subcontractors but this inaccurate in my case. The subcontractors did not know what they were moving a struggled to load the hot tub up. They simply did not have the right equipment to move across grass (despite my also paying an extra fee for exactly that reason before pickup). At one point I had to jump in to catch the hot tub from falling on one of the movers during the awkward effort to load it into the truck. I got a minor cut on my leg but otherwise no one was hurt, at least. After pick up, the company asked about an early delivery - I explained I already paid for extra storage because I followed their advice to pick it up before the busy season. I called them to set up delivery once the rest of the locevwas complete and they claimed ignorance and said they would get to it soon but they could not reach their dispatcher for a week. After that, I was told (twice) that the hot tub was to be loaded for delivery in 48 hours - it was not. Then I was told that they could only guarantee delivery in a 21 (I think) day window and that none of the other assurances were accurate. On the last day of that window, I got a call at lunch saying they would deliver that night (not the day before, no four hour window, just “tonight”) When I asked for a window, I was told they did not know but they would call me when they were about an hour out. They called saying they were 40 minutes out - and then about 40 minutes later saying they were, again, 40 minutes out. That last estimate was pretty good and they arrived to find - again - that they did not have the right equipment to move it across grass. They had already taken payment and refused to return the payment despite leaving the hot tub in my driveway. Of course, the moving company itself had been closed for hours at this point and all I could do was leave a message. We will see tomorrow how they complete this move but it is already a disaster. I can’t recommend that at all and, frankly, have no reason to believe anything they tell me. I am now considering whether to give them a chance to complete this move or simply to retain an attorney and seek a refund."
"1. Upon pick up they charged $3,624.16 more than agreed upon!!!!! 2. They took 20 days to deliver our items (I'm 8 months pregnant - 19 nights on an air mattress was not fun!) 3. They couldn't tell me where our stuff was for a week - we assumed it was lost or stolen since no one could provide us with an answer otherwise 4. They lost 19 bags and the hardware to rebuild our bed 5. I asked multiple times if our belongings would be mixed in with others and they promised me it never would. Upon delivery they show up with a semi truck full of our stuff and someone else's stuff 6. The movers confirmed these surprise price changes and other issues happen all the time 7. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told "We don't have managers." 8. I was told my pick up date would be the 30th and they didn't tell me until that afternoon that they would not be able to make it that day, they would be coming the 31st 9. I can't even count how many times I called and waited on hold for 20+ minutes just to get "disconnected" 10. I paid close to $6k for them to load, transport and unload my belongings. I did all of the packing, etc. and it still took them 20 days. MIND-BOGGLING ***Here's my story in case you're still considering using Gathright Van and Storage: They ended up charging me an additional $3,624.16 upon pick up. At this point there was nothing I could do but to proceed with the move because it was our last day to move out of our place. The sales representative, Mark Collins, quoted my two bedroom apartment at 312 cf, which the movers at pick up told me was about the size of my living room. After speaking with a few of the movers and learning that this happens on every job they work, I later realized his low ball quote was a crooked move conning me into signing with them. Mark Collins offered me a discounted rate of 54.93% for the move but they would only honor the discounted rate on the 312 cf, any additional cubic feet was charged at full price. No negotiations or working with me. No compassion or understanding. Just straight up robbery. I had to pull from my children's savings account. Prior to our move I even read a few reviews about this happening and I asked my salesman, Mark, if this would happen to me and he said, "those are people with large items of furniture who are trying to sneak it by and throw the movers an extra $20 or something. So as long as you're not trying to do that you'll be fine." I was nothing but honest about all of my furniture items and the amount of bedrooms at my place, I wasn't trying to hide anything. It was he who was dishonest and living up to the sleazy salesman stereotype, conning me into moving with this company. To add on to the stress, after pick up the mover told me he was taking my items to a warehouse. I called every single day, multiple times a day, to make sure it arrived at the warehouse. No one was ever able to confirm that it did until 6 days later. I spent nearly a week thinking my items were either lost or stolen. He also told me our stuff would never be mixed in with someone else's, that it would have its own pod and would be loaded and delivered separately. Then the movers show up at delivery with our stuff in a semi truck along side someone else's stuff and a few of our items were missing. I do not understand how this company is still in business."
