"Our family enjoyed a week on beautiful Ethel Lake. The Chase family is very hospitable and runs a beautiful resort. Ethel Lake is located in Ottertail County, famous for fishing and crystal-clear lakes. Ethel Lake is one of the clearest lakes in the county with amazing water clarity. The lake has a hard sand bottom, though there are weeds in places. The Chase resort maintains a large beautiful beach front with 3 docks, firepits, and large sandy beachfront for swimming. We stayed in Cabin #3, with a bedroom downstairs, and a beautiful loft. The knotty pine throughout really makes it feel like a MN vacation! The kitchen was stocked with basics, though guests must supply all seasonings/condiments/paper products. The bathroom was clean and a good size. The main level bedroom was a comfortable size, with plenty of storage for clothes. The upstairs loft had a ceiling fan and a window AC unit, both of which worked wonderfully. The cabin has large lake-facing windows which offer stunning views. The outside seating is perfect for coffee and meals. Fishing boats are available for rental. Firewood and a charcoal grill are provided. The resort is only about 7 minutes from Battle Lake (restaurants, bars, bowling, bait, shopping), and about 15 minutes to Zorbaz on Ottertail Lake. Nearby, Perham offers more shopping, bars, and Turtle Days in July. The Chase's daughter runs a shop in Battle Lake with stand-up paddle board rentals, clothing, etc... This retreat will leave you rested and recharged. Whether it's fishing (we caught large bass in Ethel!), sunbathing, s'mores, swimming, this resort has something for everyone. Some tips: plan on bringing your own towels, washcloths, and beach towels; bed linen and 2 pillows per bed are provided. Plan on bringing bottled water for drinking and making coffee, as the tap water tastes slightly of iron. Make arrangements to be offline, or add data to your plan as WiFi is not available. Pack headphones, as the resort requests no music be played on the decks outside so as not to offend any guests. A few tips from someone who's been coming up here a while ;) Shoreline in Battle Lake has amazing breakfast and coffee, and great lake views! The Brew in Perham has terrific burgers, fries, a house aioli (to die for!) and some great brews. The Rusty Nail in Battle Lake has a beautiful patio with lights and a couch and chairs! Ben's Bait in Battle Lake has lake maps and all your fishing supplies, along with anything you need to know where to fish. Horseback riding at Silver Sage in nearby Clitherall was a delight! Once you start coming to Ottertail County you'll never want to vacation anywhere else!"
