"This doctor's ability to turn away a pregnant woman in need is actually astonishing to me. I originally began my pregnancy at this clinic because it was close to where I live and I was looking specifically for a female doctor. I had concerns about some spotting and was seen by her twice for this reason. Both times I was seen I was told everything looked normal and that the bleeding wasn't a cause for concern. Then I ended up in the ER violently ill, unable to stop vomiting. The ER explained I'd had a severe UTI that was making me sick from going unchecked for so long and that the blood was in my urine. Dr. Varhade's office should have seen this in my urinalysis at least one of the two times I came in for bleeding. Furthermore, her office refused to give me anything for the nausea despite being unable to keep even the smallest bit of fluids down. The ER doctor said the benefits outweighed the risks and gave me something for the nausea because I ended up back in the ER because of the vomiting. I decided to switch back to the OB I had used years prior, at another hospital despite it being an hr drive for me because this blunder was a bit alarming to me. After switching back, I spent the larger chunk of my pregnancy at that clinic, but policies had changed since I had last used them and that was not made clear to me until my third trimester. I had received poor care at the new clinic and was even at risk of being treated by a doctor I had experienced malpractice from years before. Since I have to have a scheduled c-section and my previous c-section had some bleeding complications, I was alarmed I may be treated by the malpractice doctor against my wishes. So I requested Dr. Varhade take me on again as a patient so at minimum I would be closer to home and wouldn't be at risk of a botched surgery. I was told that because I had switched and was now 35 wks it was too late to switch back. Reasons given were that they didn't have time to do "certain tests" and that it would take weeks to get my records released. I informed them that I already had my records released to me, I was afraid of the other doctor treating me, and that I had since stopped attending all appointments and was still met with the attitude of "Well I guess you shouldn't have switched". If I went into labor tonight and went to the ER at National Park and Dr. Varhade was the doctor on call she would have to do the surgery without my records or whatever tests they think they don't have time to get. So it makes absolutely no since to say they have to turn me away for these reasons. Instead it feels as though they are turning me away for the petty reason of me switching doctors early in my pregnancy. How do you turn away a pregnant woman as she's crying because she has no OB and is afraid to be treated at another hospital?? How do you tell her to drive an hr away if she's in labor to be treated by a doctor she's afraid of? As a woman, how do you do that to another woman? I was willing to forgive the incompetence of making me violently ill by missing blood in my urine not once, but twice, just to be able to avoid the doctor at the other hospital, but it seems this clinic really just doesn't care about the health and safety of women at all. Very disappointed to know this is how our healthcare is handled at National Park Hospital. I mean, what do women do if they move or they don't have reliable transportation during their 3rd trimester????"

"I cannot say enough great things about this doctor! First, my appointment was at 9:00. They took me back around 9:10 for blood pressure, etc. The doctor came in at 9:26 and apologized for the delay! I was so surprised that she cared about my time! Next, she throughly talked to me about every issue that I had. She did not rush me and said she would do whatever is needed to make sure that I have a seamless process. During the exam, she explained every step that she was doing. She was very gentle and careful, it was nearly pleasant! Ha! She has a fantastic bedside manner and even laughed at my corny jokes! Oh, and her nurse was also very friendly and considerate. If you are looking for a wonderful OBGYB, look no further! She is a really fantastic doctor!"
