"This was a side trip we weren't planning on but we got rained out at Cathedral Gorge. Not ready to head home we drove up to the Ward Charcoal Ovens. It was cold and there was snow in the ground but we still had a good time. The Ovens are huge. It isn't far off the main highway so I think it was worth the side trip. There is also a nature trail loop. To muddy when we were there but the dog liked it. LOL You can get a state park passport book at visitors centers to get stamped at several of these places. In truth that is what inspired us to go. We are going to use the passport for future trips."

"A very unusual site. The history behind the silver mines and these kilns is interesting. The sadest part was that 36 square miles of trees were cut down to make charcoal in these kilns. They have not come back."

"I went to shoot some astrophotography and the eclipse. I will come back for sure as it is an awsome foreground for astrophotography. It's only 4 hours away and worth the drive. The park staff were great and it was clean and well kept."

"Really Cool State Park Never fully understood the history of the Charcoal Ovens or Kilns like these ones, but it was really cool to see and learn the history of these ovens! Definitely a cool quick stop to stop at on your way into our out of Ely!"

"Loved this! First, the town of Ely is adorable and the views heading to the ovens are amazing! $5/$10 day pass (on honor system) for NV residents and non NV. So much history in these ovens it's incredible they are in such great shape for their age! Hiking paths are right off the ovens. Watch for wildlife and stay on the paths. A fun and worthwhile stop!!"
