Reviews
"Very interesting museum. More there to see than we expected."
"Under promise and over delivered."
"Wonderful place with lots of separate buildings where tons of amazing historical artifacts are stored! Definitely a must-see if you are ever in the area ... Sufficient information about the last raid, but mostly a great way to travel back in time for a glimpse of life by the pioneers and our ancestors."
"What could a rural county museum possibly have that'd keep me occupied for an hour or two? Yeah, I know. That what I was thinking, until I walked in. We arrived right before closing and ran through it in 30 minutes. Believe me, you'll need at least an hour. This place has roughly 15 exhibits, many of which are authentic period structures that were transported here from locations all over Decatur County. A church, one-room schoolhouse, meeting lodge, doctor's office, general store and tons of genuine pieces of material history. I really connected with all the smells. Hardwood floors, wool uniforms, old upholstery, cast iron, old paper. Is that all? Yeah, NO! Walls of yearbooks and graduation class photos, period product packaging, letterman's jackets, late 19th early 20th century dresses, printing presses, ice boxes, tools, an entire wall of different kinds of barbed wire... A couple of the exhibits are involved with the Smithsonian. If you're a history nerd who's passing through and has few hours to spare, this is well worth your time!"
"Decatur County Last Indian Raid Museum. The Museum's title does not do it justice. While the indian battles are presented, so much more area history is highlighted. Leave 2 hours for the complete tour. Excellent artifacts, organisation, and curating."
