"I'm disheartened to share this review, as our experience with McAuley & Crandall has not aligned with others' positive experiences. After transitioning from a problematic CPA, we sought their guidance in 2023. Unfortunately, things deteriorated rapidly. Despite knowing the issues caused by our prior CPA, they recommended them to finalize our 2021/2022 taxes, leading to a $25,000 IRS debt with $5,000 in penalties. Promised weekly calls for resolution ceased after two weeks. Requesting progress reports resulted in confusion, and multiple meetings proved costly and unproductive. Critical details, like the new BOI requirement for all LLCs, were only discovered through our efforts. Communication challenges persisted, with a year passing and no progress on our taxes beyond a payment plan. Our last meeting on Dec 21 promised a letter to address penalties, yet, as explained in an email on Jan 17, it remained unsent. Expressing concerns has led to silence, leaving us feeling deceived. Hoping for a trustworthy CPA, our experience has sadly fallen short. Here is an excerpt from our last email exchange - McAuley & Crandall: For those prior years and amending it is possible that would help you guys out but without seeing exactly what he did and where he put the information at on the return it’s hard to tell how much it would help but is certainly something we can look into if you would like us too. I know I have missed Chris’ calls the last few days! I have been getting in later due to some sick kiddos at home. If you would let him know I am working on getting that letter finished and should be soon! Jackie, the other partner, was on vacation all last week and gone both days this week because of school closures. She will need to review it before we get that sent out but I will keep you all posted! My response: I understand and will absolutely let him know, I hope your kiddos feel better soon. If you want to give him a call back at your earliest convenience I know that would go a long way. Also just to seek clarification, I was under the impression you were already looking into our previous returns as we were fairly certain they were wrong? From my understanding I thought the whole goal was to look at our previous returns, see if they were incorrect and depending on how badly they were incorrect/mismanaged amend them and based off Josh already being in trouble and multiple complaints to see if we could get the fees dropped? I remember in the meeting I asked what the cost would be to have you look over/amend our 2021 and 2022 taxes, so I’m confused by the response of it’s something we could look into if you would like us too? However I know how crazy things can get when you have sick kids at home so it’s probably just a forgotten detail. With that in mind based off the information I have provided, with the numbers being so different in quickbooks and the tax returns, the mileage deduction not being used for either vehicle, and our IRA contributions of 16,000 not being listed on our return for 21, do you think it would be in our best interest to have these looked over? At this time we have not received any response. Would not recommend."
