About the Business

Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site, located in Sedalia, Missouri, is a unique combination of museum, park, and tourist attraction. The site offers cool Parks gear for sale, making it a great stop for visitors preparing for a trip to Missouri's State Parks.

The historic lodge, perched atop a bluff, offers breathtaking views and a glimpse into early 20th-century life in the Midwest. Built by Sedalia lawyer John Homer Bothwell, the 31-room, 12,000-square-foot lodge showcases the owner's eclectic tastes and provides a fascinating look at how a country gentleman furnished a recreational retreat for himself and his friends. Most of the original furnishings are still in place, adding to the authenticity of the experience.

Tours of Bothwell Lodge last approximately an hour and 15 minutes and are limited to eight participants per tour. Visitors must be able to navigate the 200-plus stairs throughout the lodge, as tours are guided only. The interior of the lodge is not heated or cooled, so be prepared for outdoor temperatures.

In addition to the lodge tour, visitors can explore a 3-mile hiking and mountain biking trail on the property. Temporary closures related to weather, stewardship activities, and maintenance may occur, so it's recommended to check the Park and Site Status Map for updates.

Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Thursday through Saturday, and Friday through Saturday and holiday Mondays. Please note that the site is closed on certain holidays and observances, including Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Lincoln's Birthday, and Presidents Day.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources does not endorse external websites or materials and is not responsible for any damages resulting from their use. Visit Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site for a fascinating journey back in time to early 20th-century Missouri.

"This was a pleasant surprise to visit. We drove by it and decided to turn around and check it out. The staff are very friendly. To tour guide is kind and extremely knowledgeable about everything on the tour. I would recommend checking it out! Just keep in mind there is alot of stairs on this tour."

"They have two hiking trails we love doing them in the spring/fall when the weather is nicer. The playground today looked to be getting demolished ! Hopefully they'll rebuild it I've never done the tour but there are tours that take you into the actual lodge which you can reserve. Definitely plan and call ahead, they won't do walk-ins. I believe there may be a cost involved with it but I don't know what it is."

"Beautiful place! Loved the nearby nature trails. Didn't get to take the tour as the tours are only Thursday through Sunday and I was there on Tuesday."

"Very interesting building with a unique history surrounded by fantastic scenery. The tour guides were very friendly and have an inhuman amount of knowledge about the lodge's history and can answer just about any question thrown at them. While you can get your tickets at the door, it's highly recommended to purchase them in advance due to the limited tour sizes. The only down side as of writing this review is the website. While registering on line has become the norm, the state website is utter garbage and won't give you confirmation that you did register. Save yourself some worry and hassle and call the lodge directly, their phone number is listed on the website, and make your reservation over the phone."

"Definitely a must see if you're in Missouri. Beautiful scenery. Trials to hike. Tour the house very neat to see inside. Tour guides were great we got so much information in such a short time. Call to buy your tickets ahead of time so you don't have to wait. Adults are $4 bucks, kids are $3, 5 and under are free, Tour took us an hour."
