About the Business

Located at 12206 Foster Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Cohn Arboretum is a stunning 16-acre park that serves as a memorial to Laurens Henry Cohn, Sr. The arboretum is dedicated to the preservation and study of native plants and flora, featuring over 300 species of trees and shrubs, a fruit orchard, butterfly garden, and bamboo collection.
Originally the home of the Cohn family, the property was donated to the park system in 1965 by Maggie deBretton Cohn in honor of her husband. The arboretum opened to the public in 1980 and has since become a peaceful oasis for nature lovers and visitors seeking tranquility.
Visitors can enjoy guided tours, bird watching, painting, and drawing opportunities within the arboretum's lush surroundings. The original Cohn home still stands on the property as a museum, offering a glimpse into the history of the arboretum and the family who once called it home. Whether you have a passion for plants or simply appreciate the beauty of nature, the Cohn Arboretum is a must-visit destination in Baton Rouge.
Reviews
"Beautiful grounds, a hidden gem"
"Such a beautiful place! Our homeschool group went for their bird watching class, the kids loved it (as well as the parents). They had binoculars for everyone to use & taught us all about identifying birds & our native birds. We can't wait to go back."
"Nice park, never know when its closed or open. Seems to be closed on weekends now. They say they charge $25 an hr for photography but no one EVER answers their phones or calls back if you leave messages to even schedule something. Then when you go they hound you to book but...yeah...not reliable to photograph clients there..."
"Beautiful place to relax and reflect."
"Beautiful garden with various plants, trees, flowers, fruits, and vegetables growing. There is also an old slave house that can be toured if it's not a holiday. I like to go and walk around."
