"I had points so booked one night here for free before a cruise. I would not stay here again. Pros - Location is fine and close to the trolley, feels safe. Cons - what was once a nice old hotel now feels run down and cheap - mattresses are sinking in the middle, the pillows are those weird small squares with loose fluff - like horribly cheap. Old old bathtub so slick we had to use the gross bathmat. Tub handles didn’t work properly and it runs. Room lighting is dark and it doesn’t feel very clean. The shampoo, conditioner and soap are the cheapest you could get and the towels are rough and threadbare. I’m a Wyndham Diamond and no recognition of status - in fact, when I reminded that I needed late checkout (which I had confirmed upon booking and should get due to my Diamond status) the older lady immediately started arguing with me and told me if I got anything it would be an hour or they’d charge me, but she didn’t think they could even do it. The younger lady was very kind and said I’m in the system right now and we can do it and had the availability so the older lady reluctantly agreed to let us have until 1pm for late checkout which we were supposed to have all along. The fact that she was saying no before even looking told me everything. My friends also stayed here and asked for dinner ideas (nothing fancy, 2 families looking for local and easy) and the ladies said they weren’t from around here and had no idea, which is just odd. I have no idea why this isn’t a two star hotel. Mother’s, which is a well-known local joint, is a quick walk away and we appreciate the gentleman outside who recommended it. Any basic Hyatt, Marriott or Hilton would be nicer and I wonder if the other Wyndhams here are nicer and this one is a fluke. I wouldn’t stay here again if it was free (it’s free this time on points and so money isn’t really the issue here) - it’s just cheap and rundown. I’m typically very honest but generous with my reviews but as I lay here on this weird cheap square pillow at 6am I thought I would go ahead and let other travel aficionados know that this hotel is a miss."
"Great location, walkable to the French Quarter and steps from the trolley. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the head bellman Kevin who took time to mark up a map for us with recommendations of where to eat. The room was very clean and we loved the architecture of the building."
"I chose this hotel for a one night rest stop on the way to Texas from Georgia. I also chose it because of its proximity to Lafayette Square where I can allow my service animal to eliminate compared to other hotels in the area. Unfortunately, all I can say is don’t stay at this hotel. Not sure how they got the 4 star reviews but this property is beyond run down and the staff is rude, incompetent, and unprofessional. I’ve never in all the hotels I’ve stayed in been stuck in the elevator. The room was not clean, there were long strings of hair in the tub and the towels were stained, dirty, or missing. In addition to that there was no wifi, absolutely zero outlets in the room and the light to the closet was glaring in my eyes the entire night keeping me awake which defeated the purpose of stopping to rest. Although this property claims to be pet friendly, they are not. Avoid if you have an animal of any kind whether a pet or service dog. I experienced numerous instances of harassment around my service dog, which is illegal. When we requested towels, the front desk employee refused to hand my partner the towels normally after I disclosed I have a service dog at check in. As soon as she approached the door she stated she was “scared of puppies”. Then she proceeded to refuse to move close enough to the door to hand my partner the towels we requested. Instead she kept quickly fanning the towels around which caused my partner to get locked out the room in her underwear trying to retrieve the towels that should’ve already been in the room until the person went back downstairs to provide another key. This is extremely humiliating and not the type of treatment or lack of professionalism you expect from a four star hotel. If the employee is so scared of dogs then maybe she shouldn’t work at a supposedly pet friendly hotel. Most importantly, disabled people with service animals deserve to be treated like normal human beings. It is not acceptable to refuse them towels or handed items in weird ways. Furthermore, service dogs are highly trained so id be intrigued to see how she acts with actual pets who are not trained. It seems this person needs to search for another job where they don’t interact with the public or people who use assistance animals. The next morning I left for breakfast and 5 minutes after I returned the front desk called and left a voicemail claiming my dog was making noise when we were already in the room looking directly at my dog who was supposedly making noise and there was actually no noise. When I went to the front desk to gain clarity she claimed there were reports that my dog was barking when she actually does not bark at all ever. We knew it was a lie and another attempt to harass us over my service dog. I did speak with the GM who rightfully offered us a refund; however, the damage of harassment and humiliation had already been done. I will be submitting a complaint to the ADA and due to lack of professionalism, competence, and basic human decency I would not recommend this hotel to anyone ever."
