"Deadman's Point doesn't exist anymore. Originally bought by a man named Poe for his cabin in the 1850s, this site was sold to the county by Dan Harris for a cemetery a few years later. Legend has it two men were killed here by natives shortly after the cabin was erected. A few years later the entire hillock was removed to make way for a rail terminus and the dead were reburied in what is now Bayview Cemetery (removal was between 1904-1911 or so). The boondoggle of hillock removal never paid off as the railroads chose Tacoma for the terminus. Your guess as to which story lent its name to the point. What is known is that some native remains were found while removing the hill, so this site had been used for burials by both indigenous and settlers before becoming the end of Harris Ave."
