"The Clark Bar was manufactured right here in Pittsburgh by the D. L. Clark Co. from 1917 until 1955 when ownership was transferred to Beatrice Foods and finally, moved to Revere Massachusetts under the New England Confectionery Company (Necco). The original formula was created by Irish immigrant David L. Clark and was a crispy caramel and ground peanut core covered by a thin milk chocolate shell. Considered the first successful "combination" chocolate bar, it was developed to be sent to troops during World War I and was individually wrapped for ease of delivery. My personal preference puts the Clark Bar as fourth, behind the Snickers (#1), Payday (#2) and Twix (#3). But I do still enjoy them and the crunchy saltiness. If you haven't had a Clark Bar in a while, you should pick one up and you'll instantly be drawn back to your childhood. Oh, yeah. There's the sign here. It's at the top of the parking lot that is used by Clark employees, so it's easily visible and photographable. It is not lighted so make your visit during the daytime."
