"Disappointing Experience Our stay at the Inn at the Gorge in the Cascade Suite was a major letdown. As avid visitors to Hood River, we were excited to try out this inn, but it failed to meet even basic expectations. Pros: The check-in process was straightforward with no need for interaction, and parking was conveniently located next to the inn. While the lobby boasted pastries, the lack of advertised kombucha on tap was disappointing. We appreciated the quietness of the place during our stay, likely due to fewer guests in the winter months. Cons: The main reason we chose this inn was for the hot tub, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. We specifically chose this place for its advertised hot tub, eagerly anticipating a relaxing soak after a day exploring the gorge. However, what we found upon opening the lid was far from idyllic. The hot tub emitted a strong odor of mildew, and the water was a repulsive shade of yellow, indicating a severe lack of cleanliness and maintenance. It was evident that the tub hadn't been properly cleaned or drained for some time. This was a major letdown considering it was the primary reason for selecting this inn. Despite being aware that it was winter, it's unacceptable to advertise an amenity that is clearly neglected and unusable. Just because there may be fewer guests during this season doesn't justify neglecting maintenance. Guests have every right to expect the amenities promised on the website to be in a usable state regardless of the time of year. We received a text from the owner on our last day informing us that check out was at 11:00am and asked us to leave the door ajar when ready to check out. On the morning of our departure, after prepacking our car and heading off to an early breakfast, we closed the door completely indicating we were NOT ready to check out. Despite following instructions we returned at 10:25am to find a staff member cleaning our room, well before the designated checkout time of 11:00 am. When questioned, the staff member seemed confused and cited that he thought we had left since our belongings were gone, yet he shouldn't have entered a room with a closed door as per the inn's own instructions. This isn't an isolated incident; a previous reviewer (Cary G, one year ago on Jan 2023 titled "BUYER BEWARE") encountered a similar issue with cleaning staff entering their room prior to the designated check out time, indicating a systemic problem with communication and management. The owner's response to previous negative reviews, including the one from Cary G in January 2023, is indicative of a serious problem with communication and accountability. Despite claiming to take matters seriously, it's evident that little action has been taken to address ongoing issues. The lack of integrity displayed and failure to rectify persistent problems, is deeply concerning. It's unacceptable for an owner to be unable to effectively communicate with their own staff and to repeatedly fail to address long-standing issues within the establishment. Additionally, the owner's responses to legitimate concerns expressed in previous negative reviews appear to be insincere and unresponsive. Instead of taking meaningful action to address recurring problems, their replies come across as mere platitudes, lacking genuine commitment to enhancing the quality of service or amenities. This lack of genuine effort to rectify issues, as evidenced by our own experience and by the consistency of complaints in past reviews, underscores a concerning pattern of neglect toward guest satisfaction. Beware of false promises and unkept amenities. Don't be swayed by the pictures - the reality is far from what's advertised. Considering consistent issues and owner's apparent indifference, I would strongly advise against staying at this inn. It's evident that there is no commitment and dedication to run a successful establishment. Save yourself the frustration and choose a place where your comfort and satisfaction are truly valued and choose a place that prioritizes cleanliness and upkeep."

"We’ve just returned from a 3 week trip around America and over to Vancouver Island. I have to say that our 2 night stay at the Inn was one of our most memorable. We found the age of the Inn to be its charm, we stayed in the Secret Room and it was charming, the property is quite magical. The Owner was very responsive when I messaged before our stay to change our room. We were treated to the most wonderful breakfast each morning. Cooked by the owner we had eggs individually made and they were delicious. My husband had savoury crepes one morning and he said they were delicious. The whole area is absolutely beautiful. A trip to Mount Hood and Timberline Lodge is a must. Thanks for a great stay in your beautiful Inn. We wanted for nothing."

"Family of three did not enjoy our stay due to several reasons. The rooms are old and do not have adequate outlets. One plug is needed to run the heater, since the building has almost no central heat. We had two rooms and had to share one small heater. Also, there was only one thin blanket for each person, so we were cold most of the night. We were excited to try the hot tub only to find it broken and we were never notified in advance that it was unavailable. This place is not suitable for those with limited mobility. There are numerous stairs and the outdoors space is uneven and I nearly twisted my ankle stepping off the curb into a hole. We sent a couple texts requesting help with these issues and no one ever responded. In the morning we spoke to the waiter to cancel our last night since we had a refundable rate. He said that was fine and it would be handled. We saw that in fact we were charged the full rate and were not refunded. This place is not that nice, it lacks basic services, and the staff is completely unresponsive."

"Great location in a cute little town, minutes from everything you would want to do there. Minimal contact with any staff, but did get immediate response when my door code didn’t work. The house is old and the rooms show it, but eclectic and very cute. We will look at staying there again if we ever get the opportunity to visit that part of the country again."

"The cost was high for this inn and we felt it was not worth it. The location was not as close as it looked to Oak St and after walking down the first day we drove the rest of the time. The hill was difficult to walk back to the inn. We recommend staying on Oak St. The tub was not safe. The shower curtain covered the bottom so you continually stepped on it and there was nothing to hang on too. Taking a shower was difficult. Our room was on the street side so traffic noise was heard early in the morning. The room was big so that was a plus. The inn keeper was very nice and helpful. We did not eat at the inn. We had breakfast at Bette’s Place. Delicious! My Hood is beautiful and I would recommend a visit as the views are incredible."
