About the Business

Staircase Campground

Staircase Campground is nestled in the breathtaking forests of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, United States. Towering Douglas-firs create a majestic canopy overhead, providing a serene sanctuary for both visitors and wildlife alike. Located in the southeastern corner of Olympic National Park, Staircase offers a peaceful retreat just a short drive from Olympia and Port Angeles.

The campground features 49 sites for visitors to set up camp and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area. Nearby lodging options can also be found through the Mason County website for those seeking alternative accommodations.

A network of hiking trails winds through the Staircase area, offering a range of options for outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels. From leisurely strolls along the Skokomish River to challenging treks to Flapjack Lakes, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Longer hikes, such as the North Fork Skokomish River trail, provide the opportunity for multi-day adventures in the wilderness.

Before planning your trip, be sure to check the status of the access road to Staircase as it may close periodically due to inclement weather conditions. A general map and information on facilities, camping, and regulations can be found in the park's Staircase brochure. Whether you're looking for a peaceful camping getaway or a challenging hiking expedition, Staircase Campground offers a truly unforgettable experience in the heart of nature.

"Remote enough to get away from it all but close enough to spend a short or longer visit. Basic facilities, nice sites and basic washrooms (no showers). Impressed by how the campers there respected each other, quiet and friendly without exception. Lovely places to hike and explore on foot. No cell or internet service….perfect!"

"Toward the entrance of Olympic National Forest, this is a great launching point to a lot of other locations and hikes. The washrooms and water work great, the only thing that would make this experience better would be showers. Supplies are available about 30 minutes away"

"Great place to camp. It was quiet, almost every campsite you can hear the bubbling creek and there’s fantastic trails both easy and strenuous surrounding the campground. The bugs were not bad at the campground, I was eaten alive by mosquitoes on one trail when I went in the early morning. The loop around Staircase Rapids is an awesome hike if you love looking at a beautiful river."
