"Hours have passed, yet the scent of earthy Nootka rose lingers along my skin. I am taken back to the warm and tranquil cocoon of Elie’s studio, Ula Botanic, in the heart of Eastsound. To receive a treatment from her is far more than a facial; it is a witnessing of a special kind of choreography which incorporates deep relaxation, herbalism, sound and the flora and fauna she knows so well. My body and being completely soften as I sink deeper into the hand dyed linens. The sounds that play take me to a place where my heart feels like it’s home again — and then my facial begins. I am transported. Layers of my old self dissipate with each spritz of hand made hydrosol. Each product used is completely personalized to what I am needing in the moment. This is an art form within itself. Elie’s training combines the best of so many worlds. The warm towels against my décolletage, the Kansa wand across my third eye, lengthy facial massage, acupressure and probiotic cleansing are a few moments that I so vividly remember even as I drifted in and out of time and space. I leave different, in the best of ways, an apple in my hand. My cheeks are rosier than ever before. There is a palpable brightness within me, even as the grey sky of the northwest persists.
