The park is currently undergoing the Courtland Creek Restoration Project as part of the Oakland Measure DD Initiative. This project aims to protect, enhance, and restore approximately 950 feet of open creek channel within the park.

The restoration project includes tree removal, creek restoration work, and the construction of accessible seating, gathering places, and a creek-viewing overlook. Once completed in June 2024, the project will improve creek habitat and water quality, reduce trash accumulation and illegal dumping, repair eroding creek banks, and enhance the park's appearance.

Partners involved in the project include the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation, Friends of Courtland Creek, and local schools. The project is fully funded through grants from the California Department of Water Resources, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and the Caltrans Clean California Local Grant Program.

Community engagement is an important aspect of the project, with presentations and meetings held in July 2021 and May 2022 to gather input from residents. The goal is to create a better City of Oakland website and provide a space for educational and recreational activities for the community to enjoy.

"I've lived here in the neighborhood for 50 years now. I still feel safe walking these streets. I love the walk alongside cortland creek. Even though there are a few homeless campers along the way, I have found them to be very pleasant and tidy. I often wonder how old the enormous trees are ...noticing the beauty each one holds. Birds sing here and all of Gods creatures carry on without a care in the world...teaching me to be more like them."

"This is not really a park. Only a few feet of grass and a sidewalk along the street. No benches or playground. On one side there is a path through the woods that goes from one street to another. They installed lights two years ago but they are never lit. Dangerous at night. My son-in-law was robbed twice at gun point there."
