Metal Arts Academy

Metal Arts Academy, located at 337 Commercial Street in Auburn, California, is a premier institution offering classes in metalwork and jewelry making. One of our featured instructors is Paul Lowe, also known as @sp_hand_engraving, who teaches beginning and intermediate hand engraving for jewelry and precious metals. Students will learn various techniques such as graver preparation, workbench set up, cutting straight lines to curves, and lettering. Our classes provide a strong foundation for those looking to work in the jewelry trade as a hand engraver.

In addition to hand engraving, we also offer classes in jewelry chasing, where students will learn how to use tools to bring their pieces to life. The skills learned in this class can be applied to hand fabricated pieces, cast pieces, and CAD designs. Prerequisite bench skills are required for this course.

For students looking to pursue a career in fine jewelry fabrication, our Goldsmiths Apprentice Program (GAP) is designed to train individuals as apprentices under a master craftsperson. Skills taught in the program include sawpiercing, soldering, stone setting, wax carving and casting, finishing, polishing, and tool making.

Our founder, Michael R Kosinski, apprenticed for 6 years under Larry Van Craeynest at Van Craeynest, Inc. in San Francisco. Larry was not only a teacher and mentor to Michael but also a skilled craftsman in jewelry fabrication. In honor of his legacy, Michael continues to teach and share his knowledge with future generations.
