Theatre Arts Department

The Theatre Arts Department at Santa Monica College offers a range of programs and opportunities for students interested in pursuing a career in live entertainment. Located at 1900 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica, California, our department provides the chance to earn a Certificate of Achievement or an Associate in Science in Technical Theatre.

Our beautiful Proscenium and Black Box theaters offer the perfect setting for students to explore their creativity and develop their skills. With over 70 years of experience in teaching theatre, acting, and directing, our department has a nationally and internationally recognized reputation. Located just 30 minutes from Hollywood and Burbank, SMC provides access to nearby film and theatre communities while offering a beach city atmosphere on campus.

Students in our Theatre Arts and Technical Theatre programs receive hands-on training in lighting, sound, projection, and costuming using cutting-edge technology. Our comprehensive curriculum covers areas such as Acting, Voice, Movement, Theatrical Styles, Theatre History, and Production, preparing students for university transfer and future careers in the industry.
