"I've been training Mixed Martial Arts and wrestling for a long time. I was in the area and decided to give this place a try. I couldn't have been more impressed. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. As an autistic person with social anxiety, this meant a lot to me as I get uncomfortable sometimes in large groups of people. I spoke with person at the front desk at length and got to know a little about them -- they have been involved with martial arts for a long time and are well studied in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and no-gi grappling. In the class I took, we warmed up and learned some nice entry-level takedowns from standing followed by strong fundamental guard passing techniques. The class was well structured, and the instructors walked around the room to assist with any questions or modifications. As a high level grappler, I was very pleased with the class curriculum. The live portion of the class which followed technique was great. I firmly believe that live sessions are very important towards progressing in one's grappling prowess. With that said, however, the instructor made it clear that if you did not feel comfortable partaking in the live drills, that you were more than welcome to work on technique or observe. Having the option to be more active and do live grappling sparring or to reserve your body for a more reserved form of participation is the best way to please all students in my anecodtal experience. As someone that feels grappling is something that persons of all types should be able to enjoy, I really respect how the class was designed to make persons of all experience levels comfortable. The students I partnered with were all high level but also very friendly and accommodating. I had a blast working on my guard passing as well as my submissions and guard retention. We followed this up and finished the night with open mat, and by the end, I had gotten a great work out and learned some very useful techniques that I will keep with me. As someone that grew up in Novato before moving to the other side of the country, I am so happy to see this facility. The youth and regional martial artists as well as hobbyists will greatly benefit from training here, and I can't wait to see this place continue to grow and become a staple of the community."
