"I corresponded with Vincent about a position open for a tutor and if there was a way for someone to be more depreciating and egotistical. He required ample amount of documentation, references and application, but hassled me the whole time about whether I was a serious candidate, did I understand the hours, the pay, and then, just ended all communication without a word My overall opinion is avoid Bay Area Sylvans. I have worked for 1 Franchise with 3 locations. And was offered 2 conditional postions at 2 more Franchises. They were only rescinded once these managers and owners, learned that the previous boss, Sylvan Franchise owner paid me $800 to resign so he didn’t have to receive daily feedback from me that Cocaine & Pole Dancing are not joke topics around kids, or the office, that defaming employees behind their back’s in official meetings is unprofessional and that when a student has an administrative assistant instead of a teacher for their session, it is a hoodwink on the customer and disservice to the student. It happened to one student, 3 times in one week. The main problem of these 11 centers is that Sylvan makes it too easy for Business Men and Women to exploit a real need families have. They oversell, underdeliver and it is more gimmick than education because the managers and owners I interviewed with were money people, not educators. I encourage everyone to sit in on their child’s sesssions. I do not think anyone is getting a value or a good foundation due to who is leading the team—- businessfolk, who want to make easy pyramid money."

"My son who is in 3rd grade has been going to Sylvan for the last 4 months. I love the fact that he likes to go there to learn. It is hard for him to focus on studying/reading without motivation, however, Sylvan makes kids enjoy learning not just reading or writing, but actually makes my little guy engage with the learning process. Every month he takes the assessment test and then I have a conference with Peter, director of education. He shows me a graph which reflects where my kid’s level is and discuss about the weakness and strength. The conference encourages to put my son and myself in front of the book shelf and read books together. Sylvan also has a coin system which leads my son competitive and more serious about his material. I highly recommend Sylvan to anyone who struggles with reading comprehension like my son and we are looking forward to having math tutoring after summer break."

"Vincent, the Coordinator at Sylvan Mountain View, was very responsive, professional, and customized a program for my son who is in St. Francis. He needed a quick program to help through the end of the year for math, and tutoring was not available through school right away. Sylvan offered a daily program for us to pull through the end of the semester. We are now working on a prep tutoring program for Chemistry for Junior year this summer. Recommend Sylvan to customize tutoring based on testing and learning paths for your student."

"This center is located at the prime location of El Camino and Rengstorff. I am very pleased with the quality tutoring it provides to my child. The center is even better now with the new management team. The director Jeff is very knowledgeable and good with young students, and Annette, who holds a B.S. degree in Linguistics from Standford is extremely good with young kids. I am very pleased with their educational program, and would recommend to anyone who is looking to improve their kids' reading, math and studying skills."
