"Oh boy, where do I even start? Teachers think that only they give homework, so when they don’t give out homework, they think that we can relax. So, they think that it’s okay to give out a couple hours worth of homework, which by itself isn’t (USUALLY) too bad. Now imagine 7 teachers all doing that. You end up staying up until past midnight working on several homework assignments and 2-3 projects all at once. It’s even worse over breaks. The teachers just want to give us “something to do,” so they all pile on multiple projects and endless homework assignments, turning our “break” into a week of hell on earth. The teachers are mixed. Some are actually really good, and legitimately care about your education. Notice how I said “some.” Many of the teachers either suck at teaching, don’t care about their students, or are racist/sexist. Recently, the time that school ends was pushed back appx. One hour. At first, i thought that they actually did something right and made the classes longer. Boy was I wrong. They also pushed back the start time by appx. One hour, making it nearly impossible for parents to drop off their kids without being late for work. So they drop them off early. However, the school’s campus doesn’t open until a few minutes before school starts. So, instead of being productive in the library or meeting with teachers, etc., students must stand outside until the bell rings. The school board says that they made this change so that students can get more sleep, but that’s a blatant lie. The reason students aren’t getting enough sleep is because a) they’re teenagers, and b) teachers pile on tons of homework because they can’t teach enough before school ends. And then there are the restrictions during breaks/lunch. If teachers even see your phone, even if it’s in your backpack, they’ll confiscate it. If you stand too close to the lunch line while talking to a friend, you’ll get in trouble. If you walk even a little bit faster than what is considered “normal” you’ll get in trouble. If you talk with a group of more than 4 or 5 people, you get in trouble. If you accidentally drop a piece of trash while you were throwing it away, and you pick it up and throw it away, you get in trouble. Do I really need to keep going? I did learn things that are helping me in high school right now, but it wasn’t worth my terrible middle school experience. I seriously hope that there are better options out there, and if you can afford to get into a private middle school/high school, then don’t hesitate to choose it over this school. Chaboya has so much potential, but it’s just terrible overall."
"The school has decent student diversity and overall good teachers. However, the school lacks in student opportunities to excel in anything other than grades, and the learning environment is rather dull. The food leaves more to be desired, as is with all schools in the evergreen school district. This the best middle School in the district, but the district is run by accountants."
"Terable lunch but it's like that every vere in the USA (Europe for the win). Much nicer kids than other parts of US and world. Smart teachers. Every kid here is smart."
"This school definitely has the potential to be one of the best schools in California, but it seems like the higher the API, the less budget is allocated. The teachers are tougher than other schools, but it still seems too easy. Approximately 50-75% of students get into "honor" society (3.5 GPA or above). Either the students are really good, or the curriculum is just too easy. Some teachers are student favorites, and some others, lets just not comment. You'll find 3 groups of students on the campus. Students who just don't care about academics. (10-15%) Students who could be great at academics, yet only puts some effort. (50-70%). Students who are highly driven, already know what career path they want to go through, and are working hard to get it. They often get straight A's, do not care much for extracurricular activities, and often believe that the school is too easy. (10-20%). I also found that my elementary school (Tom Matsumoto Elementary) was much, much harder. To compare: 6th grade is often considered the toughest grade, by all who attended Matsumoto. In a class of 30, only 2 of the entire class got a 4.0 GPA, and that was only on the last quarter. Especially in high API schools, the students make the school, so the people who you associate with will determine how well you do. On the afterschool side, I myself do not have much experience, though they do host sports games and dances."
"It's environment is very fun and enthusiastic. They are also very spirited and committed in what the do. All the teachers are very fun and helpful all the time. Leadership and PTSA do a great job planning all the dances and carnival. Overall this school is awesome. GO COLTS!"
