"Notice that the good reviews are from years ago? I joined HBCECU back in 2013, when I began working for the city of HB. From then and until approx. 2019-2020 (new CEO arrival), this was such an awesome little bank. Everyone was super helpful, kind, understanding and willing to work with you. Anyone who has utilized a small bank will know what I am talking about. They didn't have the most up-to-date tech, mobile banking app or hours, but the ladies sure made up for it with their great attitudes and outstanding customer service. But then came new mgmt. New CEO brought with her the feel of a big bank and it's policies, but without any of the benefits. Fees, fees and more fees. Auto loans? Does not matter if your credit is over 800 and you have enough cash to purchase outright, good luck getting a $70K loan from them. They max out at $100K, on auto?! Not to mention that it took them over one week, and me calling three times, to get a final answer. After the new CEO and the group of kids took over, there is no benefit to banking here. If you're an employee of HB, or a relative of one, and are considering this bank, don't! I went back to SchoolsFirst and what a relief. Auto loan approved in less than 30 seconds, blank check in hand SAME DAY! I know a few other city employees who have now ditched this credit union as well."

"I was looking for a trustworthy institution to deposit a large some of money and eventually get a loan for an automobile. Since I had no experience with this company I opened an account with $100 which they immediately took $15 in fees. I felt this was excessive and asked about any future fees and was assured there would be none. Four months later they took another $2. I called and the young man I spoke to said the fee would be reversed and my account credited. When I received my next statement the fee had not been reversed. I called again they said they would not reverse the fee. So I asked to speak to the manager who told me no one ever told me there would be no other fees and that she was able to review all past phone conversation to verify the prior conversation about reversing the fee which of course she says there is no record of any such phone call. So they lied to me twice and called me a liar. In less than one year they took $17 out of my initial $100 deposit. Thank goodness I have good instincts and did not commit to any large contract with these thieves. Anything to do with a Huntington Beach institution is risky at best. ACCOUNT CLOSED!!!"
