Wippletree Family Farm

"I haven't been camping in 20 years, but a friend suggested Hipcamp and the Whippletree Farm. I needed to stay indoors, and he wanted to camp. And this location was just the right combination, with the cabin, plus camping options. So, it gave us what we were looking for. Peter was such a gracious host and helped me work the well water station (water tasted great- my 1st time trying well water). And there were these cool chickens, a crowing rooster (at 5am - not too loud for me), and goats that loved to be petted! It gave me something fun to do and I could watch them walk around and eat. Near the animals was the outhouse with a portable sink, with soap, and a composting toilet. It felt rural enough for me where I could have a unique experience, yet still close enough to the city where we ordered Red Lobster for dinner through Uber Eats. Peter even brought us some butter for our biscuits. Then in the morning, I added the donut option, where they were friend golden brown with a warm and fluffy inside, and brushed with cinnamon sugar. So good! Coffee was also an add on that I chose, and it tasted flavorful. Peter included sugar and half and half as part of the breakfast (served on a tray that he carried out at 8am). "Lovely walk-in campsite (book on hipcamp), eggs and donuts delivered on mornings! A few trails right on site, very close to the gateway trail (perfect for a ride to camp experience!). Hens and goats add to the experience!"

"We stayed at the campsite and enjoyed the trails and fresh eggs. We booked the site through Hip Camp. Pros: - Close to the Twin Cities (easy bicycle access via Gateway State Trail) - Enjoyable, authentic small farm atmosphere - Friendly host - Campsite is in a well-shaded grove of trees a short trail walk from the entrance. - Trails are well-maintained, and suitable for mountain biking. - Access to water, a lounge/storm shelter with heat and board games, and the nicest outhouse I've ever used (it's better than my own bathroom) Cons: - Highway noise in background (complimentary earplugs are provided) - Campsite is a little small and slightly sloping. We could fit two small tents there with no issue, but three tents might be the limit. It's perfect for a quick escape from the city or to test out gear."
