About the Business

The Pottery Museum of Red Wing, located at 240 Harrison Street in Red Wing, Minnesota, is a must-visit tourist attraction for those interested in the history of artisan-crafted stoneware, art pottery, dinnerware, and folk art. With over 6,000 vintage pieces on display, the museum's exhibits cover 13,000 square feet and bring the story of historic Red Wing to life.
One of the museum's unique exhibits showcases a pre-prohibition saloon, giving visitors a glimpse into what life was like before the 18th Amendment was passed in 1920. Red Wing was known for producing liquor advertising stoneware jugs, with more than 6,400 shipped in just one month in 1910. Visitors can also explore a bootlegger's camp, highlighting the underground sale of liquor during prohibition.
Whether arriving by riverboat, bicycle, or car, the Pottery Museum offers tours tailored to suit every group's needs. To schedule a tour, contact Nancy at 651.327.2220.
In addition to exploring the museum's exhibits, visitors can shop for Red Wing and other stoneware, artware, dinnerware, and antiques. Don't miss the opportunity to browse the parking lot market during CrockFest!
The museum's mission is to preserve American stoneware, art pottery, and dinnerware, while increasing public awareness of these wares as both an art form and a reflection of American culture. As a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, the Pottery Museum operates solely on donated funds.

"Cool spot to check out historic pottery. Fun little trip back in time."
"My friend and I traveled to Red Wing for a day trip. Our first stop was the Pottery museum. It was incredible to see pieces that were made over a hundred years ago. I wish there was more description of what some pieces were, but overall a great place to check out. It is a free will donation admission."
"Free museum (donations accepted) with so much info about Red Wing pottery. Loved the 60's kitchen."
"Definitely stop by this free, and fascinating piece of American Art Pottery history! They have many, if not all, the works ever produced by Red Wing Pottery. I need to return to spend more time perusing, and speaking to the lovely woman in the gift shop, who was extremely knowledgeable and friendly."
"Pottery thrown before your eyes, the history of a ubiquitious brand, a visual trip through pottery styles in America and a chance to own your own historic Red Wing design all are available at this fascinating, well-documented museum. The Red Wing pottery started producing stoneware jugs and crocks in 1877 and evolved with the times into popular dinnerware in the 1950s and 60s. The free museum takes visitors through the evolution. When we visited there were several excellent tour guides who were knowledgeable about the changes. There is even a wall that shows the layers of broken pottery found in the company's dump site. I loved it."
