"This place is probably great for people with substance abuse problems and mental health issues that stem or are tied to those, but this place is TERRIBLE for people with just mental health issues. They didn't care about me AT ALL. They clearly didn't know how to handle me, nor they even want to work with me. They made all these promises and constantly broke them or just plain forgot about me. It's a horrible place for people with only mental health issues. They don't know what to do, and everything they teach is only tied to substance abuse, so nothing was helpful. A serious waste of time. Plus, once you're in their system, there's no way to remove yourself. Stay away if you just want mental health help."

Akua is unique to any other mental health / substance abuse program in that it provides not only practical education, coping methods and deep one on one therapy and case management, but it encourages clients to develop a fellowship through their shared hardships, past trauma and mental illness. This program helped me tremendously,, and I owe a great debt to it. They use methods I’ve never heard of before, like Brain Spotting and EMDR to recollect forgotten, unprocessed issues and to come up with new connections, discoveries and solutions.
