"My 97-year-old grandmother had eye surgery on February 16th. The operation was successful and we immediately went home! The staff at the hospital is wonderful, so much care and attention!!! We thank all medical staff for your professionalism and attention! Thank you!!!"
"A month ago I was rushed to the St. Mary's Medical Center ER after a surfing accident which left me with a large gash in my arm needing a substantial amount of stitches. Although the nurses were kind, and sociable, the staff had me signing paper work & re-confirming insurance information as I laid in the ER bed before I was even cared for, still profusely bleeding and in agonizing pain. Almost 2 hours later the ER doctor, who was ultimately responsible for the stitches, finally showed up. Not the friendliest individual, but still, he took care of me, which was the essential part. After my stitches were in I was able to go home and given Amoxicillin. 24 hours after my ER visit, I felt worse than before. My arm was swollen, bright red, and I had a fever. I went back to the St Mary's ER and was told I had an infection and needed to be admitted. I ended up spending 24 hours at the hospital, so they could give me different antibiotics. Although these non-ER doctors were extremely caring, receptive and ultimately healed me, the experience was scarring. Fast-forward a few weeks, I go see a doctor separate from the hospital to get my sutures out. That doctor is shocked to see the state of the stitches, saying they've been poorly done. She's even more shocked to hear I was given Amoxicillin as an antibiotic for a skin wound that happened in the ocean stating that it's not the right antibiotic to give & the doctor should've known that. Although as I said, the staff were all very kind, I can't help but think my whole second stay at the hospital (and extremely expensive bills associated with that stay) could've been avoided if the first ER doctor would've taken adequate care of me."
"I was at their ER for severe pain in my stomach area. My hospital is UCSF, but the ambulance brought me here because UCSF is closed. Ambulances at that time. An hour after I had my first dosage, the pain came back, and I was calling and trying to get the attention of the nurses who were a few feet from my room as I was in so much pain. Someone finally came in, and out of frustration and sheer pain, I shouted at him, saying I was in a lot of pain and had been calling for 30 minutes. I even called the landline twice, and it still took them a long time to send someone. When this nurse returned to give me medicine, he said, "Well, your medicine is here. Do you want me to give it to you or not?" He can see I'm in the middle of changing my clothes. His demeanor changed when I checked his name. I have never been treated so rudely in a hospital. Note that I didn't even want to be there in the first place. The ER wasn't as busy compared to UCSF. I saw four nurses at the nursing station earlier just chit-chatting, so I knew someone was available. The attending doctor came to me, and I gave her the feedback. Hopefully, the behavior will improve. On my way out, none of the nurses even asked if I knew my way out. At UCSF, EVERYONE is pleasant no matter how busy they are, even at the ER. During all of my visits at UCSF for a year during my cancer treatment and my visits to the ER last July, everyone is pleasant and empathetic. I was at St Mary's for barely three hours, and it was my worst hospital experience. I checked out of St. Mary's and am now in UCSF, my hospital. The nurse's name is Nicky, and I intentionally omitted his last name. #StMary'smedicalcenter #UCSF Addition: The call with the leadership team didn't happen. They have my details, but no follow-up was made. I hope with the recent acquisition of #UCSF, patient service improves to be at least part of UCSF, which has always given me excellent service throughout my cancer journey and my continuing medical support."
"when i was a child I ended up in this hospital for one year. the staff are surprisingly neat interactive fun. this is a place with a floor you need to work there ot it won't work. you feel very safe up there. FOOD! they have a cool system you use a pencil to fill the circles.. you eat very well. awesome place."
"I went to the ER after an unfortunate night out where someone spiked my drink. The doctor immediately gaslit me when I explained my situation and asked if I had intentionally taken cannabis several times. No I hadn't! I just wanted a drug test to figure out what I was spiked with and to help with making a police report. Terrible experience."
