"#1 Please bring your children to a professional piercer instead of the retail staff at Claire's #2 If you choose to ignore #1, then buyer beware. My granddaughters were brought to Claire's to get their ears pierced. My eldest granddaughter had already had her ears pierced by a professional piercer, so she was aware of that process and how surprisingly painless it was. She was excited to get her ears repierced....that was until she witnessed her sister get her ears pierced. (I added the video to this review so that we can all be traumatized by it). Needless to say, my eldest granddaughter was hesitant about getting her ears pierced after witnessing what her sister just went through. (Can you blame her?) After about 20 minutes of indecisiveness, we called it an afternoon and left. Eventually, my husband ended up bringing our granddaughter back because she was heartbroken that she didn't get her ears pierced. She was just as indecisive and ultimately was too scared to get her ears pierced. Completely understandable, considering she bore witness to the trauma her sister went through earlier....Here is where the Buyer needs to Beware. When getting your child signed up for an ear piercing (or sending a lamb to slaughter as it may be) Claires has you sign your life away, your rights to your 1st born, your 1st harvest from the new farming season, as well as your soul and the souls of your descendents...this is all done on their user friendly tablet. Keep in mind how easy it is to read all the small print....the thousands of small little letters before signing it...all while your anxious child is bombarding you with questions because they're scared and need constant reassurance that it will be okay (No Suzie its not going to be okay, its going to hurt like a SOB but everyone will pretend like its okay), and the Claire's associate is asking you to pick out earrings and then drawing dots on your anxious kids ears and asking you if the dots are even (I don't know Destiny...Are they even? You're the one who watched the video on how to draw dots on ears, not me). So, like any sane person, you sign the tablet without reading it, so you can just get through the impending sh!+show that is about to happen. Except it doesn't happen....because, like most children, your kid is scared and dosen't want to go through something they know is going to be painful. Some kids will work through their fears, some parents will force their kids to go through with it, and some kids will not go through with it at all. My granddaughter fell into the latter category...I bet a lot of children do. They are too afraid of the pain they know they are about to go through, so they refuse to go through with the piercing. Unfortunately, for the buyer, the Claire's associate has already opened the "sterile" earrings...so regardless of your child's ears getting pierced or not, you now have to pay $65 for the earrings because they are no longer "sterile" because the box they come in have been opened...and the Claire's associate touched them. You can not even bring them back at a later date to use them if your child changes their mind and decides they want to have their ears mutilated by their highly trained piercers in their "sterile" environment. The whole thing is a scam and very preditory. There is absolutely nothing sterile about the process, from the setup to the guns they use...I would question if its even sanitary, although I'm sure that 1 small alcohol prep they use really makes a difference when sanitizing the entire work space. Now, let's talk about making a profit off of the fears of children. How many parents have had to walk out of that retailer with $65 less in their account because their child was too scared to go through with it? Do you honestly believe that Claire can not afford to keep the jewelry that cost them at most 50 cents? What Claire's practices is preditory behavior. It's shameful. It's sad. It shouldn't be allowed. Yet it happens and goes unchecked. Claire's really needs to do better."
