About the Business

Rancho Corral de Tierra

Rancho Corral de Tierra is a breathtaking park and tourist attraction located on Frenchmans Creek Road in Half Moon Bay, California. This 3,858-acre site offers stunning views, important watersheds, miles of public trails, and diverse wildlife. Preserving over 80,000 acres of parkland, Rancho is one of the largest undeveloped parcels of land on the San Mateo peninsula. Once planned for development, this land is now protected as part of our nation's natural legacy.

As the National Park Service takes on management of Rancho, the Parks Conservancy is working with the community to improve trails, trailheads, and trail connections. The property, historically known as “Rancho Corral de Tierra (Earthen Corral) Palomares,” has a rich history dating back to the 1839 Mexican Land Grant to Francisco Guerrero y Palomares.

Visitors can explore the park and participate in activities that promote sustainability and fight climate change. Your support is crucial in restoring and protecting critical natural areas at Rancho Corral de Tierra. Come out for an afternoon of discovery and exploration of the natural world at this beautiful and historic location.

"This park is tucked in the hills next to the Half Moon Bay airport. My partner and I went hiking up the French Trail to the top of Spine Trail. The incline was pretty intense. It was a good workout, but not a particularly notable hike. We tried out this park to mix things up, but probably would have been happier at one of the East Bay Regional Parks. Beware the wind, it get blustery on the top of the hills. Also, be sure to wear long pants and socks, I had a tick latch onto me on my way back down."

"Hiked about a four mile counterclockwise loop up the Clipper Ridge Trail & down the French Trail (aka God’s Trail). These trails are pretty steep, so good for a workout. Nice views of Pillar Point Harbor & HMB Airport. The Clipper Ridge Trail is overgrown with pampas grass in many spots so pants are recommended. I didn’t see anyone else on these trails on a Friday morning."

"Beautiful trails, even better on weekdays with little to no foot traffic. Just started mountain biking and am lucky to have this trail system right out my front door living in Montara."

"A fun network of trails winding along and above the coast, alongside a ranch with horses and up to some beautiful views. A bit busier than some of the other nice parks inland from the coast here. Park in one of the adjacent neighborhoods rather than trying to fight for a spot in one of the small lots along the 1."
