Newt's North

"It is a rarity nowadays to go to a restaurant that will handle your time and food with as much care as possible. I can be fairly anxious when dealing with servers, as not to be overly friendly, but the staff were fantastic. Observing them throughout my time at Newts was an absolute joy, moving quickly and promptly on serving, drinks, checks, and all of this during high service hours no less. Honestly, top tier service. The food was very good as well. Starting off, they bring a bowl of popcorn (no picture, I was so caught off guard that I just started enjoying the well salted snack). That said, the food was great. I have had better, mind you, but it was all fresh and you could really taste the effort put in by the cook. The burger was well made and didn't fall apart after a couple bites like most do, the fries were crisp and had good flavor (though, slightly under salted), and being who I am, I felt compelled to get an order of fried pickles with my meal. The outside was crisp and the perfect level of flaky, and with a generous portion at that. The only downsides I can really mention with the trip was that the toilet was broken (which was likely due to high customer flow), and that the building itself is very nice, but the atmosphere is slightly cluttered, particularly with the television placements. There seems to be a mandatory tip for this building as well, which I wouldn't see as a problem at all, especially with how well the staff is doing. With a little work from the higher ups on rearranging the placement of some of the screens, I might be able to even finally give a 5-Star review on here. So, if you're looking for a place with food worth the price, a great staff, and great atmosphere, so to Newts to Eat, Drink, and Be Merry."

"This afternoon six of us met @ Newts for lunch. Err a delicious lunch. First off they have a bowl of popcorn on the table. delicious but it's the chips & salsa of a burger restaurant. So I over indulged enough that I only ate half my burger. Rest assured 4.5 hours later it warmed up for a just as delicious meal! The side options are salad, fries, or cole slaw. Five of us opted for salad and I did try one fry. They were delicious but w the pre-meal popcorn I would have ate less of my burger. Three of us ordered the Marvin's and were happy. One had chicken strips, the other California burger w add-on's of onions and pickles. I opted for the Hefe Rojo. I asked our server if he jalapeno Jam was hot? He said no... I didn't confirm if he was Minnesotan :p as I figured for sure he would say yes. I had the sauce on the side. I dunked my last bite in it, I mean dunked! So I thought it had some heat on it , so I was glad I got it on the side. Our party was there about two hours and it never got busy enough that we felt our server wanted to turn our tables which was appreciated. I like that the restaurant is pretty spread out and its eclectic decor... deer heads, a bike, to the beer bottle border. Newt's is a true gem of a place. For a burger bar the choices aren't too overwhelming and cover the gamut for your palate. I look forward to my next pass through Rochester to stop in for a meal! "We stopped by Newt's North on a Monday about 5pm. The initial service was slow, but once our server came over, everything progressed at a nice pace. There's a family-friendly sports bar vibe to the place. There are TVs everywhere, tuned in to games, and lots of items covering the walls. The smell of popcorn permeates the restaurant because a bowl of popcorn serves as the gratis appetizer that everyone gets along with their menus. That definitely sets this place apart! We ordered drinks from the bar and cheese curds as our appetizer. The curds were AMAZING. I could tell they were incredibly fresh, as they were wonderfully squeaky with a great pull. Ranch and ketchup were served alongside. For our main entrees, my husband ordered the Three Little Piggies Melt with tots (he loved it, said it hit the spot nicely) while I had a Chicken Caesar Salad (fresh greens, with a good amount of chicken, croutons, and cheese). This was a solid place to eat dinner. I can see why it's such an institution in Rochester."

"We came on a Friday night about 5:30pm and found parking with an issue. When we left, it was very difficult to get out of stall as other customers who couldn’t find place to park, just made their own stalks. We were able to kitty around and finally get out, but it was a challenge. When we arrived we were seated at a booth. There are high tops, tables, booths and the bar for seating. I count over 13 TV’s. Music was very loud where we were seated, but it was near a speaker. The menu is at the table when you arrive- it’s a burger place so that is definitely your best option followed by appetizers. They have a full bar from what I could tell. We ordered drinks first and looked over menu wile we waited for the last person to arrive. There looked like a popcorn machine and most had popcorn, but our server never got us any or a bowl for us to go get some sadly. Probably for the best as I would have just drank more beer while we waited for our friend. Finally got to ordering. I got a burger but there was just cheese and ketchup/mustard on it. No lettuce, pickle, onion, pretty plain. For $16 I was expecting more. It wasn’t even seasoned well. So, I’m not sure I felt it was worth the price. The two with me - one liked his burger and the other was a bit on the fence on his sandwich but liked the onion rings. Music was loud and so was the atmosphere. We decided to go to another bar for the night."

"This place has an eclectic atmosphere. The free popcorn appetizer is a nice plus. I had the Marvin Burger and Onion Rings, my wife had a Regular Cheeseburger with French Fries and my son had a Chicken Strip Kid's Meal with Fries. It was all good, the burgers were cooked as ordered and the beer was cold. The Chicken Strips were good and tender, but don't have a crispy exterior, so that may be a consideration when ordering. The fries could have been cooked a bit longer, but our family likes a crispier fry than most. They give you cups of ketchup (as seen in the pics), but we would have much preferred to just have a bottle and got our own ketchup and not have had to bother the busy wait staff for more. A bottle of mustard was provided, so it seemed strange to not have the same with respect to mustard's counterpart! Grab a $50 gift certificate at Sam's Club across the street for $37.50 and get yourself a 25% discount... you'll thank me later!"
