About the Business

Discovery Park

Discovery Park, located at 1600 Garden Highway in Sacramento, California, is a popular tourist attraction and park where the American River meets the Sacramento River. It offers one of the best boat launches in Sacramento County, allowing recreational boaters to explore the wild and scenic rivers.

Visitors can access the park from I-5 by taking the Richards Blvd. off-ramp to reach the South entrance or by following the Garden Highway exit east from I-5 to find the North entrance. The park is easily identifiable from the highway with signs.

The park features a 32-mile Jedediah Smith Bike Trail for bicyclists, softball fields for adults and kids, and an archery range for archers of all experience levels. Picnic areas can be reserved for parties, and there are boat ramps and car-top launching areas along the American River for water activities. Anglers can enjoy excellent fishing opportunities in both rivers.

Alcohol is prohibited at Discovery Park unless a permit is obtained from the Director for picnics and special events. Parking fees are collected year-round, including on special event days and weekends. Visitors are required to self-pay if no fee collector is present. Support Regional Parks and save time and money by purchasing an Annual Parks Pass today.

"Oh my. This is a huge park. Bike and walk trails, aqua sports, picnic tables, restrooms (porta-potties), natural habitat, and tree's older than my momma. Just beautiful. I had a chance to speak to Gabriella with JTYED TOURS- JET SKI. Listen to what she had to say. Come on down to Discovery Park and find your serenity. Thank you Sacramento for keeping the grounds precious."

"Golden Sky Festival needs an overhaul. We had VIP access and there were no signs to direct you to anything. I didn’t even step in the bathrooms until we left and that was a joke. There was no lighting at all. We spent a lot of money on tickets and it kind of sucked. The food was really good but way over priced. A pizza would run you 48 to 50 dollars. And of course the drinks at any event are way too high. Getting back to the shuttle no one even knew where they were going even staff. After a little while of walking I thought you myself maybe they would tell us the wrong way just for the fun of it. Not fun. To take the shuttle was 25.00 per person. Which with all the other pricing I felt it was too high. And to my knowledge there is no parking around Discovery Park. I contacted them directly I got no response even posted on Facebook. We parked at Cal Expo and we shuttled over. Then getting on the freeways was an absolute nightmare. Off ramp’s closure all over due to construction. Would have been nice if Golden Sky would have given a heads up on this. Because I’m sure it’s been going on a while now. The signers at the show all were fabulous. Except Eric Church. He came out 30 to 45 minutes late. No explanation. We ended up leaving early. In my opinion they need to not space out the singers as much. It was hot and standing off and on in situations like that is hard. Then to have Eric Church come out late it was really enough. People had already been standing for hours. Even if you could sit people are so rude they don’t care you’re there. They will walk all over you, and your stuff. I don’t feel it would be something we would go back to. It would have to be really good performers and I for sure wouldn’t spend that kind of money on the VIP access again. There really was no benefit in my opinion. Specially because they were letting people in the VIP section who didn’t belong. And I don’t think the festival cares which is really really sad."

"I attended Goldensky for the second year here. The venue is cool and the way they set everything up is nice so it's spaced out. The restroom situation could use help. As the event goes on the "sinks" will be out of water and tissue. More seating would be nice also but overall it's a nice place to attended a show."

"This was my very first time being at Discovery Park. It was for the Sac Brew Fest and it was flipping Awesome. Tone of people having a great time. Music was great. Beer chug/race was great entertainment. Some amazing local brewers out there showcasing their “goodness”. Some amazing food trucks. It was over all an amazing event. I can see why this park is utilized for Out door events! Great Job Sacramento!!! There was plenty of bathrooms for the amount of patrons which is always Nice….."
