"Authentic Cantonese food, great value and most of all great service. We had clay pot rice and they make their own preserved meats. The restaurant looks clean for Chinatown so it’s worth a try."

"If you like the predecessor of 8th St Cafe, called D&A cafe at the corner of Webster st cross 7th st 20 years ago, you would love this Hay Yue restaurant. I came for dinner today. The dishes are $20-$25 each, not too bad considering minimum wage is $16 an hour. If you want to enter value mode, you can get $39.99 for 3 dishes in smaller portions. The bamboo lamb brisket in clay pot is as delicious as you would expect. The one in my photo is a small portion version. A lot of lamb, very generous. Scrambled egg with prawns is a Hong Kong classic dish and this restaurant cooked it very well. The eggs are creamy as it should be. You can compare it with scrambled egg with bitter melons, which is another style that cooked the eggs a bit more. I like the creamy one more. This restaurant cooked these two dishes in two different styles that they should be, very good job here. If you like spicy food, you can give sichuan stir-fried chicken a try. It is surprisingly spicy enough to taste good. They have some customizations for clay pot rice which are not shown in the menu. For example, we can order a larger size of chicken pot rice with added preserved meat. I am not fond of pot rice in general, but they are very popular in this restaurant. People started ordering them at around 10:30 am! You will not be disappointed with the milk tea with condensed milk as well. Hay Yue restaurant is definitely a strong character in chinatown that you should put it on top of your taste menu, especially now other good ones were folded or gone."

"Brand new restaraunt, authentic food as you would find in east Asia. Fresh and large portions. Clean new space, nice service. Prices moderate, fair for this level of quality. Second time here, new menu."

"This place is great. Clean, tasty food, and good service. I’m glad to see a new restaurant open in Chinatown. For us neighborhood residents, it’s been so much doom and gloom ever since Covid hit. Give them a shot, and ignore the reviewers who obviously have no experience with a newly opened restaurant gaining its footing."
