About the Business
Take 2 Ranch is a sanctuary for veterans and horses who have experienced trauma or are at-risk, located at 381 Jernigan Road in Portland, Tennessee. Our mission is to provide a place of hope and healing for those struggling with mental, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual challenges. With one in five veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan experiencing major depression or PTSD, and one in four exhibiting symptoms of substance abuse disorder, our program offers a unique approach to therapy.
Situated on 22 acres of rolling pastures, our ranch features a 15 stall barn, indoor and outdoor riding arenas, and a peaceful picnic area. Through Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP), clients engage in ground activities with horses that promote leadership skills, confidence, trust, responsibility, and teamwork. This innovative form of therapy creates a safe environment for women, children, and soldiers with PTSD to rebuild trust and confidence while feeling supported.
Each client is paired with a horse and sessions are led by licensed mental health professionals and horse experts. While therapy is conducted on an out-patient basis, we also provide referrals for long-term residential treatment if needed.
