St Helena Salon

"I never, ever, ever bother with reviews which you can see when you select my name. But, I just have to say my experience was literally the complete opposite of other negative reviews on here. I'm temporarily in St Helena for the winter and went into the Salon to pick up some the shampoo I use. Sara was super helpful, AND we got to chatting and I booked in for a root touch up. I figured, why not.....I felt the blonde highlights had gotten too brassy and with natural curly hair I was worried about agreeing to a hair cut. But it's just hair I thought, let's give this a whirl. Well, I felt like I was in a hair make-over show, when I twirled around in my chair....my hair was perfection! I almost cried! I definitely hugged her....the color is stunning and the cut.....well, I could be in a shampoo commercial, seriously. It's always nerve-wracking to go see a new stylist, I think Sara was more nervous than me! But it really came out beautifully. I would recommend Sara to anyone, and I don't know anyone here so I hope this review finds you when you are deciding whether or not to stop in."

"I patronized this shop for years in an effort to shop local. The last time I was in I inquired about cruelty free (not tested on animals) hair products. I was openly mocked and made fun of by an old blonde woman who I think is part of the new ownership as well as Sara Chappellet and a customer. They kept making snide comments about me to each other and to me. I don't think my question was out of line. I was just trying to shop in line with my values. For a store that's closed on Saturday to observe the Sabbath (for a religion that is vegetarian), it seemed absurd for them to treat me that way. On another occasion I was out with friends having a drink in St. Helena and one of the stylists approached me. She proceeded to tell me my hair was all wrong and let me know how she would improve it if given the chance. She started playing with my hair and messing it up to prove her point. She also let me know my clothes were too baggy and started to pull at them to show me how I would look with tighter clothes. This went on and on. I was too stunned to get her to stop talking and touching me. I don't know what the story is with the owners and employees but these are two very negative experiences and I won't be back."

"This salon is amazing with a very nice and welcoming staff. After speaking with Lolita, one of their talented stylists, I knew I was in good hands. Lolita knew exactly what I wanted and left me smiling from ear to ear. Highly recommended!"
